Can we get some new sectors soon?

Jan 25, 2004 technocrat link
Can we get some new sectors soon (like regular sectors, not hidden ones)? Space is such a big place, why only so few sectors? If there was more "room" I think it would add more variety to the game and give it more of a "spacy" atmosphere. Can we also not have a base in almost every sector? Maybe there should be 3 empty sectors between every sector with a base.

I'm also curious, how do sectors work? Is there one dedicated server per sector?

Thanks.

eventually, the game will have a thousand sectors (0-999), or so i heard.
right now, the number of sectors fits the number of players on at most given times, i think.
and there aren't many sectors without a station where you'd possibly need one (not counting race sectors), making it 3 out of a total of 18. that makes 6 "full"sectors per 1 "empty".

Um, I count... two without a station. Eight and 16. Where'd you get 3? Am I forgetting something?

Also: I would like to see things stretched out again for the sake of novelty. While some hidden sectors are cool, I believe that the hidden ones should be made visible either when their novelty wears off, or when new secret sectors are added. For example, it's about time to make Sectors 14 and 15 visible. :D

Nah, if you've visited 3 times, your computer should log the coordinates and remember.

He must be talking about 10 since the station is technically hidden.

Shhhh! :P

At the moment, I think more sectors=more boredem. When there's 15 people total on, and two of them are bots, and 6 are afk, do you really want, like, 35 sectors? Yeah, that's what I thought.

I disagree with electric. When there's 15 people on, 10 of whom are in their home sectors, 3 of whome are pirating and 1 of whom is trading, do you want to have to sit around botting, or go explore?

I too want more sectors. It makes things more interesting to have longer distances to travel across the galaxy.

I'd rather have a good chance of running into somebody than "explore" by myself. The whole point of a MMORPG (and an engine test for a MMORPG) is player to player interaction, not flying around by yourself.

Yah, as toshiro said; there are more than enough sector for the current amount of players.

I like Trigger's idea. One huuuuge sector!

I can just picture me, in my prommie... silhouetted against the night sky... chased 100000km across the sector by 15 Itani valks...

Heh, sounds like fun /me gets his valk

/me thinks that sounds familiar dave. Hmm ;D

anyway, my take on this is that althought the test is made for player to player confrontation. Some people don't always want to go around fighting people or trading. Having more sectors would add to the fun of just go around the galaxy. As long as the sectors are way different from others. Like I can see how exploration of new sectors will be fun, but that gets boring after a while, so maybe a sector that's really different from the others. Like maybe have asteroids flying around it with stray ships e.g ghost ships. Not to mention a giant roid in the middle that has rumors of something extraterestrial living in it. Then a new sector would be worth it. Ergh, let me summerize that.

We have enough sectors as it is now unless something different is added, not just some plain sector with roids.

The software as it stands can handle new sectors, and in fact there are a few sectors in existence that are not linked to the rest of the game. The art in those is very generic and not worth describing. As has been said earlier, there's no point in opening them if they're going to be more of what we have now. Right now work is going in to fixing bugs, getting funding, and building on the Missions portion of the code that is already in progress. Please let the devs tackle things in the timeline that makes the most sense. If they were to bow to pressure and drop everything to work on whatever players were clamoring for this week, the progress would be very slow and the game would be a mess.

hmm sounds like a good idea to me. Ok what are we gonna complain about this week :-P. Don't worry FM i'm just trying to make your job more difficult. :-D
