This puts me in mind of the concepts of "Digital Human Freight" and re-sleeving from the Altered Carbon series.
A further +1 infinities if Inc embraced the SEDE belief (to recap for newer folk, SEDE = Sentient Eternal Digital Entities and referes to my belief that there are no biological lifeforms in the VO universe, and that we players are all unique, sentient "AI" programmed by out progenitors to believe we are biological, as opposed to the hive, who are not unique and have no similar programming).

I could see this being unfair to traders who had managed to fight off a pirate only to find him waiting ahead at the next worm hole better tooled up for the job. Still it would be mightily convenient though and remove a lot of boring travel especially going to Deneb which is such a chore from greyspace or UIT where most people spend their time. This could be better addressed though with a new wormhole from greyspace to Deneb. It would have to be to a neutral sector so it's equally useful to Serco and Itani though.
You can kind of achieve this already by having several alts - it's just more grind to get them up to the same levels. I have done this myself to catch conveys for instance.
