Factions should require ongoing work to maintain standing
As the subject line says: Factions should require ongoing work to maintain standing. Each week all factions with the exception of the home nation should require a little bit of work to maintain respect+ standing. This work can entail proc missions. scrap mission, or other faction specific missions. If this work is not done, every week the faction level drops a 50-100 points. Faction levels will drop weekly (if work is not completed) till they hit their game start points (neutral, with the exception of Corvus which starts at dislike.)

There really is no _need_ to have this, it would just cause people to stockpile more stuff while admired. If the various factions and sub-factions had some meaningful impact of day-to-day play then it may warrant another look, but right now apart from Capship building the only real endgame content is the grind to POS with the various factions.

I agree with Yoda. The last thing we need in VO is more, "Space Trucker Simulator: 4447."
Off-topic, but shouldn't it be like "Space Trucker Simulator: 4464" by now
at low faction standings, 50-100 faction points is a few trade missions away. But at +1000 faction, 50-100 points is a lot of multiple jump bulk procurement missions.
How many multiple jump bulk procurement missions do we wish to require per week to maintain +1000 faction standing?

Yoda, that is a good point about stock piling. Easy way around this, would be to exclude procurement missions as a qualifying mission.
I realize that factions don't do much at this current point in time, but I assume all the work that the devs are putting into the upcoming 1.9/2.0/x.x/etc.etc release will result in factions being more relevant. I find it unrealistic (that might be the wrong word for it) that a pilot can get POS standing in less than a day, and then maintain it by doing nothing.
These sub factions should be asking "what have you done for me lately". And if the answer is "nothing", there should be some kind of consequence.
To Roda: I'm still fleshing out this idea (which is why I posted it to suggestions. Sometimes i need to bounce the idea off of others to improve it).
I'm now thinking, if someone gets POS, then they get an extra week or so before the work needs to be done. This would be yet another reward for putting in the work to achieve pillar of society.

Rather than excluding proc missions outright, a better solution is to implement memory of which avenues for faction gain each character has utilized lately. That way there can be diminishing returns, with maximal standings gain being achieved by balancing your efforts across several types of activities. People could still rely exclusively on procs if they really wanted, but it would take more resources than shaking things up by doing some hive skirms or border patrols, or working other kinds of missions, etc.
Also, if positive standings decay over time, then so should negative standings. They should return to Neutral more slowly than positive standings, however. No more than half the speed, maybe even a quarter.
I like the idea of having maxed out standings (in either direction) stick for a bit before decaying, but this should be extended by any continued activities. I.e. if I'm actively killing noobs, my standing shouldn't suddenly drop a smidg from KOS even if it'll be immediately fixed when the next noob dies. The fact that I've been recently breaking the law should prevent it from changing in the first place. One way to implement this would be to keep the standing display capped at +/- 1000, but set an invisible internal limit of +/- 1050. That way the stickiness is just a perceptual thing rather than a special case that needs to be programmed in.

-1 not as of now i don't personally see it as a good idea(maybe later on, as suggested above), otherwise it's just another PITA to deal with.
