Just turn off your sound, or go into the options and turn down sound effects. We don't need a toggle for specific sound effects.

Actually, it'd be nice for recording purposes to have >some< elements disable-able seperately [collision, engine, station light buzzing]. Since you can replace the hit-beep, could something similar plugin-wise be used to mute specific sounds elsewhere?

This functionality, while nice, needen't be part of the game itself if a plugin could handle it.

Can you change the music too, I heard Sibelius's Violin Concerto a few days ago and that would be amazing for the serene tranquility of greyspace.

there is already a plugin for changing music; check out the Wing Commander plugin or Parsec. Kombat tunes could be used by other plugins if you need something more general instead of drop-in replacing the audio from the previous two.
