Lock Target Orbiting with auto engage toggle

I am new to this game but I am not new to these types of games. I uses to play Eve Online and there were many things I liked about it but things I disliked eventually prompted me to quite. I found Vendetta in my search for an Eve like MMO and so far I am very pleased. However, I don't like how mining and player combat are quite linear and require steady attention. This can be problematic when mining in one spot for any long period of time; and same to be said about a lengthy combat engagement. I would like to see an orbit toggle option when I have locked on to a target so I can stay in motion while tracking and avoid being targeted. Or at least make it a little harder to be targeted. Plus being able to orbit a target allows you to observe the rest of your surroundings or perform other tasks while mining or attacking a target without losing track of it.

Such a manuever lock wouldn't really fit with VO - your in direct control of your ship, not merely commanding it to follow a set of instructions or something. THAT is more what I'd expect out of EVE...

Combat in Vendetta is about as nonlinear as it gets. If you are expecting another game like Eve, you will likely be disappointed. Vendetta is not like Eve.

Having an "orbit" function would certainly be useful, but I'm not sure it would really add much to the game. One of Vendetta's greatest strengths is that you are in direct control of your ship, as Luxen mentioned. It is possible to orbit a group of AI enemies with careful flying. I suppose you could even orbit another player if you really wanted to, unless they were also trying to orbit you in a mirroring direction.

Everything is already orbiting something :P Maybe my big head, it is quite large!

Not needed in this game. If you are mining while hostiles are present, then you really would need a lot more than this. Bots might be stupid, but I'm pretty sure they will eventually kill someone who is flying the same path over and over at none-turbo speeds. If there are no hostiles present, then simply parking close to the roid can actually be a better way of obscuring you from other peoples radar. Orbiting would simply show them where you are.

This is a twitch combat game, with mining and trade possibilities. It is not EvE, or even close to that game, except for the fact that both are set in space.

Face the asteroid and type:

/+RotateCW; +StrafeLeft

You will begin to roll while strafing, moving in a perfect circle, maintaining distance from asteroid.

To turn it off: /+RotateCW 0; +StrafeLeft 0

You can make more complex evasive maneuvers by using the wait command. You could also make a plugin to fire gem turrets at hostiles. You could have a second character with gem turrets protect you.

This can be accomplished, with scripts and/or plugins.
