a route for getting incomes...

I really think it's time soon to charge for vendetta. As I see it it's the only way.
You could ie make Vendetta playable only for registred users from the next version and on.
This could be a deal like, anyone want to register have to pay $25, with a promise of getting full version for only shipping cost once released.

Over the versions, as the games improves, I'm sure more and more people would sign up on such a deal.

I don't know what you think, but might it not be an idea at least?
If we lobbied hard on all online computer and gaming news sites the exposure might be big enough to get enough funding for the next few months... and hopefully incomes will continute to be enough from such sales.

Another thought might be to turn to a company like Lindows. Try with Michael Robertson (CEO). He likes these kinds of projects and it could be a benefit for him to be able to distribute a game like Vendetta with LindowsOS. He gave a million or something to the Xbox Linux project....

" really think it's time soon to charge for vendetta. As I see it it's the only way."

You really wanna see vendetta killed of that badly? The game needs to have a free aspect somewhere or new players look at it and go.. "Why should I pay 25 just to try this game I might not even like.. and its still a beta!"

Vendetta doesnt have enough of anything yet to get people to fork over cash just to try it. The issues of money were gone over pretty well in the other threads, and one thing came out on top. Its gonna take people volunteering to pay, not forcing them, or the game is toast.

And for gods sake PLEASE, do not ever give this game to lindows. They'd find more ways to charge for it than we could ever imagine and it would fade off in a months time... imagine, a linux os, which you cant actually download any installable version of for free, that installs software they charge you additional amounts for even though its all freely available on the web!...

I think alot of people would pay - I would for certain. With a bit of marketing I don't think it's impossible at current state.

About Lindows as an investor, I never proposed selling themselves... the scenario you paint would only be possible with Guilds agreement.
But atm there is no deal, my point is that Michael might be worth taking contact with, since he's proven before that he gladly pumps money into anything Linux-related.

If you, Ceadda, has got any better idea for how Guild Software could stay afloat - please let us know.

As I said, this has been discussed pretty well in the other threads, and there were a lot of very good idea's. Maybe you should take a few minutes and actually read them and youd understand better.

Yes, there are people who would pay right now. The game cannot, however, survive on just those people paying. It needs some method to draw in more players first. Otherwise, you end up with the list of pople who said they'd pay, which, was under 100 wasnt it? (see other threads). And no more money... end of the line after everyone tossed their money into it.

And so, we come back to. Mandatory payment to play, being a very because of how quickly it would kill the game off!

Now please go read the other threads, and look at how everyone has expressed the idea that the best thing would be addons, graphics, and extra features to buy into, rather than paying for the game itself.

And actually, vendetta itself is not at all "Linux Related" Its for windows, mac, and linux. And of the 3, linux usually falls behind in the latest addon ons and visual niceties... if it were a little more, linux gets this first, it might catch linux companies eyes more.

Maybe ask Lindows-guy if he'd mind paying for the game to be called 'Lindows' compitable ;)

Remember how long the "Ability To Run Windows App's and Games" part of lindows lasted? Did it even make it past the beta version before they said oh lets just forget that feature no one will notice...

I must agree with Ceadda on the point that charging $25 for a beta level game is rather absurd. I think that activating a Pay-To-Play policy sometime in the next 6 months would be feasible. I would pay upto $5 a month or so to continue playing Vendetta. While a 1-time charge is preferrable I dont know how well it would actually work unless Guild had a MASSIVE user base and immedietly went into production of another game so they could also charge (say within two or three years) for that one as well.

I think that perhaps a 1-time charge of say $50, or so, would be feasible in 6-12 months
