The un-used race-track station...

Could sell a new ship that has no ports and is purely a racing ship. It could have a very high base speed, but no ability to turbo. Very little armor!

Trade interface (more like a bot) in the station would allow a player to place a bet that they can beat the fastest time recorded in that ship. The loser's credits pool until someone wins the pot by posting a faster time.

Perhaps once per year this gets reset, and the pot from the previous year is used in an event to start off the new year. These race ships are free that day, or until the value of the pot become exhausted, or something.
