My main concern with allowing payments to whomever wherever whenever is typos. Currently, if there is a character named peytros and a completely unrelated character named paytros, somebody trying to pay peytros can't screw up and pay paytros unless paytros is online and in-sector with them.

If you don't check what you're typing it's your own fault and not a good reason against implementating this important change.

Also I'm still against fees as they are just an anti-fun mechanic designed to make the game less enjoyable. We don't need that.

I will not personally be upset if a bunch of newbs, mobile players, dyslexic people, folks with bad vision, and the just plain sloppy end up sending money to random strangers instead of their business partners. However, given that needing to be online and in the same sector has only inconvenienced me one time ever, changing it and screwing over those people doesn't seem like a worthwhile trade-off to me. Keep in mind that bungled payments mean upset players, hostility toward the game, and assholes pestering the devs with support tickets.

A /requestmoney command might help offset these concerns, though it would bring a few of its own.

Yeah, +1 to a "requestmoney" command that unlocks the universal pay system. It might take more dev time than just making /givemoney global, but should save even more headacing in the future. Beyond that, just an option to auto-decline requests or a 30 second limit to how often you can send them to help prevent bots from spamming people who appear in chat [hows that sund?]

+1 To global pay system, but unless both ships are in the same sector, make the payer have to use a station to make the transfer. Replace the bar with this system.

+1 to a fee for use of such system. It would show up right next to the field into which the amount to send is entered.

Also, give us commas to separate hundreds, thousands, millions, etc. It's hard to see the difference between 10000000 and 1000000 even though it's 9,000,000!

Valid concern.

Place a timeout on the transaction and force the receiving player to accept the transaction. Transactions not accepted within X period of time are cancelled and returned to the sending player. A player who sends funds to the wrong username will have their funds in limbo for a period of time but will not lose them in the long-term.

Another safeguard would be to give the sending player the ability to cancel a transaction which has not yet been accepted, returning the funds to them immediately.

+1 if the transaction fees are sent directly to the Retired Autonomous Trader Section.
