I wanted to think of this as a small port screamer variant that is given out for dueling. I think the reduced prox, increased mass, and the need for having energy is a fair trade off as you wouldn't be able to lay down a constant stream of enery and pop one of these off on a dead powercell. The grid only allows for one of these to be equipped at a time so using two of these is not possible.

This weapon is a reward for dueling I don’t see the point of tri KOS. I agree with it being 9/9/7/0/0 as it’s not a heavy weapon that license should be a bit lower. I’m really not a fan of making these new weapons super restrictive or have really high grid. 12 grid allows it to be used on three port ships and they can fill out the rest of their ports while keeping it off of 4 and 5 port ships unless they want an empty port. I don’t agree with any of the other changes either. Also please don’t change the names of people’s suggested weapons that is just rude.

My changes made it clear that this weapon was not for just duelists. I removed that. This weapon is clearly a miniaturized Screamer, so the name should reflect that. You called it the solar flare, which would mean that it is a improved sun flare or something, but its not. So my name change more accurately reflects what it is.

The 16 grid reflects that the highly specialized electroplasma shielding used to contain the increased explosive yield takes a lot of power from the powercell. 16 grid allows for multiple combinations. One additional weapon, or other combos with addons (like storm extenders or scanners/blockers/spoofers). 16 grid is wonderfully unrestrictive for a weapon like this.

This weapon is a perfect addition to the tri kos corvus offerings(Axia Furies, and Ultra Positron Blaster). First we get an energy weapon, now some explosives. We just need a tri kos ship. It is not hard to get tri kos in this game (takes about 10 minutes or less depending on how fast you can turbo).

+1 with the added tweaks. But I'd go so far to recommend it be named the Corvus Ultra Flare to be consistent with the Corvus Ultra Positron. Same grid as the CUP seems about right.

@we all float third weapon is specifically for duelists as it was suggested in another thread that we need a reward for those badges like we do for pvp badges. If you want more pointless try KOS weapons with limited combination abilities I suggest you make your own thread. Current as it stands if you made the hound ti kos and added your proposed weapon the hound couldn’t even equip both. Three port ships should still be able to fill all three ports with weapons in my opinion. I invite you to start your own thread since your changes are so radically different than my proposal

Thats correct. With weapons like this, you should have to choose one or the other. There need to be huge compromises for OP weps.

My changes seemed too minor to warrant a new thread. But i suppose i could make one.

No there should not be a huge compromise. Tri KOs is an easily bypassed roadblock for wealthy endgame players as they can tank their standing and be back to admired in the same day. The trade off for this weapon is having to get your duel score up to 1600+ it is locked away from players who cannot “git gud” yes it can still be bypassed by players throwing matches but going down that route has been punished by incarnate before. And I repeat this weapon is not OP it is balanced by its weight, energy requirements, prox, and splash which are all nerfs compared to a sunflare the only buffs are damage and speed. Those are more than fair trade offs for getting a higher damage and faster flare while still being able to field three weapons. 4.5 nerfs to two buffs.

Yea, it seems like they're enough to make a new thread to me. There's definitely some overlap, but I think another thread wouldn't hurt, as the triKOS vs duelist requirement is kinda major.

That is incorrect. You can only run the 30 mil credit mission once per major nation. Then you have to bot or run escorts.

The duelist badge can easily be gained in less than a day by opposing pilots throwing fights. There are workarounds for everything in this game. TRI KOS hurts the most.

My tweaks better reflected the elite nature of this weapon. Since it is more like a miniaturized screamer, i tweaked it be more in line with that weapon.

Anyways, i find that healthy debate and discussion in threads like this allow us to flesh out the best overall suggestion. Much more than simple -1 or +1s do. But since a guide has weighed in that my tweaks are too drastic, then i will make a new thread in a few minutes.

@we all float even with tri KOS and voting you can just drop your capship in and auto bot with out worry. Anything in this game can be bypassed but inc has actively punished people for inflating their pvp stats in the past and I don’t see anything indicating he wouldn’t punish people for fake dueling. This leads me to believe that the badge requirement is more restrictive

Clearly you never actually looked at blaqks dual stats. Look at the counts on sime of them

That should be reported to inc for him to decide on based on any evidence just like how others have been reported and dealt with. I don’t think the possibility of someone using a punishable exploit is enough to discredit an idea

If you don't like the OP then state why you don't like it. If you'd like to give other suggestions on the weapon that you'd like to see in the game then start a new thread.

What happens when we all just start posting the weapons we'd like to see is that the thread just becomes extremely muddied. If you have a suggestion for a new weapon, then start a new thread. Suggesting minor tweaks to the OP is one thing, but suggesting an entirely new weapon deserves its own discussion. There's no reason that healthy discussion and debate can't go on in multiple threads.

Let's get this one back on track with the OP.

We already have enough flare variety and don't need just a stronger Sun Flare.
If you really want a new flare it should be an 18 grid addon like the Widowmaker.

Perhaps modifications on existing weapons should generally include the OLD stats with the new ones?

I'd lower that ammo count to 9

For refrence the Iceflare has 16 rockets at 800 damage, The starflare has 14 rockets at 1000 damage and the sunflare has 12 rockets at 1500 damage I'd also increase that mass to maybe 1400, the same jump in mass as the starflare to sunflare change.

I must admit however, I don't really like rockets all that much.

Speed and damage are probably the most important stats for a flare. Bump up the mass and lower the ammo and I could get on board.
