Make Weight Actually Matter

Nov 27, 2018 Heini link
From how I can see it the current weight system doesn't really affect most ships and players usually never consider it because it just doesn't do a lot. I think we should see more changes if our weight changes. For example we should already feel a difference when we lose 100kg from switching to a posi from a neut. And if someone decides to equip let's say 1 Gat Mk2 and 2 Sunflares they should feel all this weight and be worse at turning and accelerating. It should also be more rewarding to not use all ports and for example use a Valk with a single CWM. Flares should weigh more but at the same time they should lose weight with each shot they fire. For example the Sunflare should have a launcher weight of 300kg + 100kg per rocket so in total the weight would be 1.500kg and after all shots have been fired it would only weigh 300kg.

In short:
-Make weight "heavier". For example 100kg should impact the maneuverability of a ship more than the current system

-Give Flares weight according to the shot count and lose some weight after firing one

1) wtf are you snorting, weight does affect ships. you can easily feel the difference between a valk with a CWM and one with flares and neuts.

The ships movement isn't just dependent on its weight but also thrust. The only way you'll feel a significant change is if you tweak the thrust values, which you'll have to do for all ships. Or, you'll have to change how physics works in the game.

2) has been suggested before, +1

-1 everything except the flare ammo do affect weight lol
A rag using gatmkll and quad flare easily makes the ship harder to use. Heavier= slower

I'm aware that the weight system already works but I think that some weapons with more firepower should affect the ship more so if you want to equip multiple weapons with a lot of firepower you should lose more maneuverability as a balance and encourage using different weapons. For example a Valk can easily handle 3 Sunflares but after the change it would be really hard to fly around and it would be recommend to instead get 2 energy weapons with a single flare.

It already is affected. Avalons make you much heavier and slow. I believe valks have high thrust and power on them so they can handle it a lot better

I think you need to come up with specific suggestions as to what you want the new weights of particular weapons to be.

The easy way for you to do this is to simply try ships, in combat with whatever weapons. Then try the same load out again, but with some junk cargo as ballast.

I've sometimes found that I actually do better in my Rag mk3 , jackhammer, prox mine, adv rail setup if I add about 500-1000kg of ballast. It seems to make it less 'twitchy" if that makes sense. The movements become more flowing and less jerky. I do lose some ability to dodge, but against a few pilots, flying certain setups, the greater accuracy is worth the extra pounding I take.

-1 weight works fine. That's why I fly mostly energy, it's lighter and I can move better.

+1 to missiles having weight.

quad flare gat is is surprisingly fluid. Pretty hard to dodge but the weight makes it harder to miss

wait weight doesn't really effect ships???? imma put a dent cell in my rag then and go to town

-1

The mass system is already pretty decent and predictable

if it's not broken don't fix it.
Nice attempt on nerfing flares again btw.

I actually don’t know if they would really be a nerf to flares deathspores. Since the more you fire and the longer the fight your ship gets lighter and more maneuverable. +300 added to my typical set up but -700 after dropping some flares? Sounds like a buff in the later stages of a 1v1

That was just suggestion #2 peytros, the first suggestion again aims at nerfing flares.

It's not really a nerf, I would say it's more of a buff or just a change. A full load would be heavier than normal but after you used all your flares your ship would be lighter. Only the weight of the launcher remains and would be 100 to 300 kg and 400 kg for large port flares.

It depends on the initial mass of the flare launcher: you have two options
Option 1: double the current mass of the full flare launcher and make it drop to the current mass after ammo depletion: Then you have a flare nerf.
Option 2: keep the current mass of the full flare launcher and make it lighter when depleting ammo: then you will have all the pure energy fighter / flare haters who will scream at the suggestion (it has already been suggested before and got flamed).

None of them will get a consensus. So better change nothing, will save drama/whining and a few gray hair less on Inc's head.
