Comm Jammer Mine

Oct 06, 2018 We all float link
Preface: I understand fully that the very concept of this mine violates section 3 of part 1.1 of the ROC.

Though if it got implemented, it would be part of the game, and my preface would be moot.

----------

This will be a mine, so if it used in a station sector, the station guards will kill it. It has an effective range of 5km. Due to Its high power usage, it will only jam for 5 minutes. To continue to jam, a user must continue to drop mines every 5 minutes. Each launcher contains two mines. This is an all or nothing weapon; meaning that all coms, both friendly and enemy are jammed. Including all numbered channels, group and guild chats. Usage in a monitored sector will result in an immediate 24 hour temporarily KOS status for that faction/nation. Including corvus.

This will be a manu'd item, so a pilot has to go out of their way to attain it. This way noobs won't have easy access to it, and won't unknowingly have to deal with the factional repercussions of using such a weapon.

Note: Corvus currently allows those who are Tkos to dock. Nothing changes here.

Could be fun blacking out comms for awhile preventing calls for help.

Re: Corvus You cannot become kos with Corvus or reach a point where docking is not permitted.
Corvus exists solely as a place of refuge for those who cannot dock anywhere else.

You can reach Tkos (temp kill on sight) with corvus which is considered -601 by the game. You are still able to dock with corvus when you have TKOS status. Shoot someone in the NFZ at a corvus station to see what i mean.

I know I suggested a similar idea elsewhere, but I just realized it essentially amounts to weaponizing "/vote mute" . It's supposed to be a moderation feature and not an offensive gameplay tactic (despite it often being wrongly used as a gameplay tactic). More over you can easily bypass communication blackouts now with discord and other chat platforms.

Could you stop being so dramatic Greenwall? This mine would make it so cap ship pilots would not be able to communicate with their capships for a temporarily period of time(my original concept use for it). In fact, this mine might be able to stop credit transfers as well in the time period that it is active.

Great idea, just hide it inside the collision mesh of a roid and bork the sector. Does it kill Discord chat too?

+1 Very well thought out negative consequences to use. High grid limits the deploying ship to being only that mine launcher so its vulnerable even to ECs. Would be interested in seeing the Manu list and where it would be built.

I guess whistlers sarcasm sensor is faulty. So glad Wash is such a good follower of rules since he's also the one who runs the discord relay.

If there was recent editing here, I don't think it was me.

Other things this mine will jam are the furies link to the owner, and the orion squadron's comms to their owner (they will both get stuck in their last action). I also think it would be interesting if this caused other mines to detonate on their owners while they were being jammed.

I said sensor, not censor.
