Third Viewing Mode
Currently we have,
mouselook -- allows you to look anywhere without waiting for your bow to come around.
not-mouselook -- your camera is hard-mounted to the bow of your ship.
On heavier ships, especially cappies, it can be a pain to swing the whole damn thing around just to get a look at something. I propose a third viewing mode, that allows you to look around without adjusting your ship's attitude at all. Then we'd really put those milenar optical sensors to good use.

This kind of exists already. You can actually move the camera completely independently from you ship, strafing included (no turbo or rolls). It's really good for recording.
I think he means something like a control lock that doesnt engage turbo. If so, its something i've wanted to ask for for a while. +1
Mouselook in first-person causes your ship to move when you do, and view-mode 5 is pretty pathetic since your speed is either off or on, plus some consider it exploitable.

Yeah exactly. Just something you can toggle so that when you mouselook your ship doesn't move. Kind of like mouselook in turbo... except without having to turbo.

While the view that I'm talking about doesn't lock to you ship, and isn't just a control lock, you can achieve a similar awareness to the one you're looking to achieve.
A control lock with viewing still enabled would be cool, too.
