occulus go radar

Change the radar display to a sphere that is fixed to the direction of the ship.

This may require a bit more processing time but I suspect you are already doing the needed calculations.
It seems a bit ...off.. To use a 2d radar display in a 3d enviroment.

I am now really interested to see what this would look like; I'm so used to the two 180 degree hemispheres it doesn't bother me in Gear VR, but it would be neat to see additional displays in the VR cockpit as there is a lot of real estate.

I am thinking a single sphere will leave room for other stuff. The hard part will be to get use to it after all the time seeing the dual 2d displays

So there will be only one sphere?

Real men dont need a second ball? lol
Yes a single 3d sphere would be able to convey the relative location of all objects surrounding you.

You mean like Elite Radar?

It might be a good option for VR, but it need to be an option because with more than 1 ship on screen Elite radar can get very confusing very fast! Trust me when I say that 2 radars are better than 1 for twitch combat and fast 3D thinking (I have use many radar systems in many many different Sci games and prefer VO radar best). Also think of the lawsuit if it too close to Frontier Developments radar! The original Elite trademark now belong to them and they need money too so...

I would personal prefer to move current radars where target information is now (under aiming area) and move target info to under selfie info (like where credits is displayed) as you can visually see if a ship has damage and what type of cargo you have select without even using target info and can still see it with a glance if needed.

Uh.... No

That is a flat 2d radar. I am talking a 3d ball radar showing the relavent postion of everything around.

Come to think of it the range should be adjustable so players can zoom in so to speak

A ball makes even less sense. How would you tell who is in front and who behind? Bear in mind your suggestion is for VR users, who currently do not have the best displays in the world (although the occulus go is quite nice) and colors can already blend quite easily on the peripherals of your vision due to the lensing effect. so unless you have it shoved right in the players face it will be even more useless than now.

Have you never played Colony Wars? If you had you may realise how confusing a sphere radar can be... even the Elite one makes more sense...

Wind Employment, you should be able to use HUD Element Mover to move around the HUD pieces you want to move. This currently does not support 3D positioning necessary for VR uses, but that might be doable. I dont have a VR device to do any testing, though.

The colony wars one is about right.
I am sure a 3d radar is rather poor in a 2d enviroment and would be very difficult to use effectively. Afterall it is in fact only a 2d image.
A 3d vr radar would have some depth to it and be far easier to read.

draugath

If you got this working that would rock a lot. I know you have a lot of projects for VO so do you take donations? Also if you have something that needs to be tested I am willing to be a guinea piggy. I'm not sure if I will get into trouble for posting email address here but I don't mind posting it if you like.

Thanks dude!

Sorry for hijacking the thread PaKettle, I would have replied on the link but that forum seems locked to me.
