I think a feature could be added to the map that would benefit all players at all levels:

When viewing a system, have the grid highlight sectors where a player's system notes have been added.

As it is, having to mouse-over a sector to see if it has notes significantly detracts from using one of the most powerful tools at every player's disposal in such an information-intensive game. It would make the act of entering/retrieving notes more intuitive and would encourage more new players to take on the behemoth of information that awaits them at every turn.

meanwhile, you can use navcomp. it colors sector also for notes.

...i forgot we had sector notes. Again.

+1 as long as it's optional, preferably with a checkbox right there on the page rather than buried in the game settings. It's the kind of thing I might want to toggle on the fly depending what I'm doing.

VO 1.8.466 includes:

- Added option to colorize sectors that have notes applied to them in the navigation menu. It is enabled by default and can be changed in Options -> Interface -> Colorize Sectors with Notes in Navigation Menu. The options are in Options -> Advanced -> Interface for mobile devices.
