Make a persistent capship: UDV Savet
Since we know from historical examples that honoring players posthumously is not guaranteed to occur within the immediate decade following their demise, and since we never know when our time will come, I propose the following:
Now, while I am still alive, make a persistent NPC capship named the UDV Savet. Equip the turrets with special capship ravens.
Once this is done, rename the capship to the UDV Ninjr and replace the ravens with repair turrets.

Are you well bud?
Would anybody have ever claimed I was well?
This is just a tongue in cheek suggesting to finally make Ninjr's NPC.

+1. I get time isn't easily spared, but this is for Ninjr. A player i didn't get the chance to meet, but wish i did.
+1, I want to virtue signal too. No but really, Ninjr was a kinder player than all of us. His contribution towards teaching new players could easily be responsible for thousands of dollars worth of subscriptions, and he was held in high respect by the community, a respect that can be seen by the fact that to this very day, only the lowliest of the low open fire on EMS, and doing so is the VO equivalent of a crime against humanity. Make his damn ship already.
Yes, you're all very frustrated, this has taken too long, etc.
I really liked Ninjr too, but most of the ideas for an automated NPC (firing repair guns, helping newbies, and the like) require completely new mechanics.
I cannot burn a week developing some new wacky NPC to memorialize Ninjr right now.
Back when i originally suggested the idea, i was thinking we could just inject his name into the convoy system, or place a standard NPC that spawned occasionally, or rarely.. somewhere. Some kind of very simple memorial.
But everyone wanted something much more complicated. And were quite vocal about it. So, it went on hold. Because.. reality.
I didn't think it needed to be that complex. A random NPC name, or perhaps naming an un-named planetoid, etc.

Honestly just a spawned Capella that's PoS with every faction and travels in a circle around the systems would be fine with me. I wasn't aware that everyone wanted rep guns and stuff. Maybe just go with a standard NPC, or maybe the community can just make a PCC mission where you have to repair some ships and the mission NPC can be Ninjr, reward can be some of those exclusive rep turrets or something. Its just something you guys suggested you'd do, and the player base never forgets. A Ninjr Capella would appease most of us honestly.
There is a bit of a difference between naming a ship, planet, or other thing after somebody, and naming an actual character after them. We don't need a character pretending to be Ninjr and issuing missions. That would be weird.
@Inc: It would be neat if it had repair turrets and such, but really the only important thing is that it's not some Serco or Itani war ship roaming around murdering folks. Maybe just set it up as a possible name for the Tridents in Hive Skirmishes. Naming a celestial body or station would also be fine, as far as I'm concerned.

If you can dock in a ship, can you not also repair your own ship while docked?

It's simpler, too, as it doesn't have ramifications for future game-balance. It's also more persistent. NPCs may need to come and go, for various reasons, but planets are unlikely to change.

Renaming a planet after a player is no small deal either. The potential impact to RP this could have is pretty gnarly. Memorializing pilots that have come and gone, in the actual backstory could facilitate the long term growth and enrichment of the universe as a whole. Maybe not, but either way still rad as hell.
+1 to anything in line with his character. Simple is good too.
Dilan Rona renamed the capship he owns to UDV Ninjr but we all know how that went.
+1 - make a capship, a capella, that roams in circles through the verse, lets say a figure 8 through grey, then uit, then serco, then itani, then back to grey.
Make it have no weapons, and offer reps to anyone without standing checks, for standard station prices. This should be fairly easy to do, ships already allow people to do this, and if the "no weapons" part offers issues (most turrets have built in neuts as standard) then just leave it as the default neuts :)
If the no-standing requirements thing is difficult, make it aeolus, and just use standard rules used for capship repairs.
Or, equip it with rep turrets that cant drop - it doesnt need to do anything with them, just a nod.
If it did reps at station prices it would not bother the game balance, and if it has no weapons, and only drops scrap, it would minimise the attraction to attack it. It would just drift past once in a while.
It must be always white as well, that was ninjr's colour, am i right? :)
Having the name injected into the escort system would never be noticed, and if a planetoid were named, it affects the backstory in an illogical way. If there is just a ship flying around then its gonna give the impression of what it is - a memorial to a pilot - far better.
Still, ninjr was one of those people whose niceness transcends the toxicity of vo. I am glad to say i met him as a newb myself, and he helped me too.
Ninjr's memory being openly visible as a ship would not just be a beautiful memorial for us all to see, and remember, but it would be a good reminder to the playerbase that you dont need to be a toxic player, that teaching others and spreading goodwill can be greatly satisfying too.
And it'd add a little more life to the universe.
