Modify Shield Turret Effects
I was just thinking... Shield turrets on small ships firing shields is kinda cool...
But what about modifying how they work on capital ships so instead of firing they lock the turret,
and upgrade the ships shield.
I think this would be a great way to improve ships with a tangible tradeoff, creating much more experimentation options.
I was thinking with numbers i am not 100% sure of, so i will guess.
Lets say a shield for the goli has a recharge rate of 60% of a dent. A rough guess.
So, by installing 1 shield turret, these values could be increased by an additional 20%,
meaning they match to 80% of a trident's standard shield.
A second turret could then be installed, with a diminishing return, this time lets say 15%,
putting its shield at a level of 95% relative to a trident... But only one usable turret.
A third turret on the goli could allow 105% shield strength. But no turrets usable.
The trident could then potentially have one shield turret achieving maybe a little more extra power, say to 130%, a second upgrading to 150%, a third to 165%, and a fourth to 175%. But now, it would have no turrets for defence.
The turrets should be very expensive, even more so than the current range of turrets, lets say 1mill at least each. These would be heavy duty combat modifications, and should be as expensive in game terms as hotrodding your car would be in real life terms.
You could potentially consider the same idea for other capital ship stats. Maybe a turret adding 10ms max turbo speed, or natural flightspeed, or a turret (extra turning thrusters!) that increase spin torque by 10%.
Using the turret slots in this manner would add incredible levels of customisation, but at an appropriate cost. I know if i were to remove one of my capswarms, i could no longer deshield a teradon. Remove a second, and no longer able to deshield a queen, or a trident, remove a third, and unable to deshield a goli even.
The idea of kitting your capital ship out with hardass shields, i think this would appeal to a lot of the combat pilots, as it would encourage their platform use, i.e., mobile r+r, in far more dangerous situations.
A trident with 2 shield turrets, 1 extra natural speed turret, and 1 maneuverability turret could then become a powerful ship but not directly, it would force its use as a support ship, but it would excel.

+/-0; I feel something else should be used for "augmentation", even if its a new form of slot, and the balance is grid usage and drain on energy (not enough to decrease, just slowing the increase rate).
+1 i like the idea, but also add some large weapon slot for capital ships only.

-1 you want invincible gollies
Drevent, Even if a goliath got a 60% sheild boost, 1) I imagine the weight would make it super slow, and 2) It'd still be within the realm of deshieldability with current weapons [or so i'm fairly sure]. It isnt like there wouldnt be tradeoffs to this, and it aint gonna let them self-recover armour or increase its hull density or anything...
but it would let them sit in a bot sector and shoot bots all day without any damage
You might get a comparatively invincible goli - but it couldnt fight. capital ship power is in the turrets.
Why replace the shield turret behavior with this? Just make this a new item, then capship owners have the choice of whether to use it or to use the normal shield turrets.
Fair enough, same format, but new item instead hehe the suggestion was to modify an unused item and make it usable, thats why i picked the shield turrets, but a new item would be cool too.
