Notify of expired BEFORE accessing a character
as the title says. currently you don't find out you forgot to resub till after you have logged into a character and have lost your council and or LT position.
+1 Sounds reasonable
Re voting council members can be a hassle. A hassle that this suggestion could sometimes help with.

+1, though I hope to never have to see this message anyways.

There's no pre-expiration email?

I like surprises, don't ruin them for me.

Not that I am aware of. THere is a note after selecting a charecter that your expiration is coming up, but a post-expiratory message pre-charecter-selection makes sense. It would be even better if there was a box on the charecter selection screen that gave how long till expiration occured, and would glow red when it said expired.

It occured to me that when a friend key expires, the game gives a pop up informing the player that their sub is up. At that point they can not log in; not even to the character selection screen. So the mechanism already exists in the game client. It just needs to be applied to full subbed accounts.

This is seriously guild breaking behavior for anybody who has converted from a free or lite sub to a full sub. Leaving this unfixed, while seemingly a low priority is very significant and impactful to smaller guilds with players that sub month to month.
Since this behavior does not exist for players who never had a free or lite sub, leaving this unfixed is essentially a punitive system for a player that has chosen to convert to a full sub that is not levied on players who never used free or lite.

FYI that I have noticed this, and Ray and I have been discussing it recently (well, relatively recently, I was in LA last week for E3).
We actually started an implementation of an email notification system quite some time ago. But, then some other terrible thing happened and was followed by various other fires and explosions that created weeks or months of distractions, and basically we didn't get back to finishing it.
But, we're going to re-evaluate that soon (not "Soon(tm)"). However, we're doing some important work right now that's really technically complicated, and I don't want to distract Ray in the middle of this.
So, anyway, noted. It's stupid on multiple levels (guild-breaking on login, and also no warning messages in general about expiration), and we intend to address this.

Great suggestion.
An email notification system would be greatly appreciated.
