Allow "Homing" on Player Owned Tridents
Note: Inc has already said: "There are game mechanics that make certain assumptions about homing, which we'd have to investigate. Plus, there may be some more fundamental architectural challenges to overcome."
It's been suggested in the past to allow players to home on dents, so as Inc suggested, I've created a separate thread for discussion.
To begin, I would suggest that initially, only the dent owner can set home in their dent, and should the dent be destroyed, the home gets reset to a capitol system, in the same fashion as when a player is Temp-KoSed at their home station.
Once any bugs are resolved with owners homing in their dents, then it could be expanded to allow others the same privilege, maybe restricted to players possessing owner keys to the dent?
Thoughts?

What happens if there aren't any ships present in cargo on the trident? Would the player still spawn there or would they be redirected to a station instead? If it is the former then homing would probably have to be limited to players who also have piloting rights.
Funny you mention that... the same thought occurred to me as I was waiting for my lunch at the local kebab place today. I guess non-owner homing would rely on others having piloting rights. I would assume this functionality would get added to owner key rights at some earlier stage.
For the owner of the dent, it would likely result in them simply piloting the dent. This may cause issues if some one else was already piloting it. That player could get moved to a turret, perhaps?

true owner supercedes keyed owners. If there is a conflict, superceded owner (Keyed owner, in this case) is sent back to...whatever its called when you dock.
The player should still spawn on the trident even if no ships are available.
If that's the owner, he/she/it has a ship. the trident or goliath.
If it's a non-owner who docked and homed there he/she/it becomes a gunner. It would be in that person's best interest to defend the ship!
The capship without any additionally docked ships would then have to make it's way to a capship dock. From there, the gunners or owners can get an EC-89 or parked ship.
If the capship is destroyed, then they re-home the same way you would if you just received a temp-kos from Tunguska or XX.
This is pretty much how a gunner works already, right? Once you accept a gunner invite and the ship launches, are you not at the mercy of the pilot? I honestly don't know if /explode or some equivalent command would sever the gunner and send he/she to their home station.

But, personally, I give the suggestion a -1.
I'd rather be able to kill a capship pilot far from his home while he is trying to dock with an XC.
