In the past Guild Software tried to get a kickstarter going and promised to bring more content online if it reached its goal. Instead of going through a third party program that takes out fees why not create a donate button page on the site that you can donate towards specific gameplay upgrades for the game as a whole?

You could offer incentives if you really wanted but I think a lot of people would chip in towards a goal, especially if you picked the right one.

There should be a donate button on the top of every suggestion thread so instead of people +1ing they can +1$
