public key option
There is interest in the ability to make station keys available to all users. Rather than have to input every single character name in all of VO, why not simply add a "public" access option that allows universal access?
It would be an owner key option with a warning asking for confirmation because it cannot be undone.
Everyone would be issued Public Access Keys to the stations, and when confirmed by an occupant they become activated.

So, if the goal is giving access to the general public, why not just have a "no key required" option and sidestep the whole thing entirely? Then it could still be un-done later, if they chose to make the station private.
where would "no-key-required" be placed? The owner key to whop owns the station? And, will it control docking and IFF seperately? still, +1 to having that put in, if it aint difficult
no key required is fine -- but another problem lies in the deceptive practice of people giving keys to "everyone" and then revoking that access to users at opportune times (i.e. when a juicy XC is loading up).
Making a universal / public access option that cannot be undone without fully retaking the station would give people who truly desire to provide public access a chance to show their true intentions.
So I modify my suggestion to be as follows:
1. Add a no-key option which can be turned on and off at anytime by any owner.
2. Add a irrevocable public key option (probably several ways to go about this, but the end desired result being a key that is granted to everyone that cannot be switched off -- station must be retaken to remove the full access status).

It would seem like that could be addressed simply by adding a delay when setting a station Private again. So basically, if it's set Public, it's public, but if you set it Private it won't go into effect for N time (could be an hour, or a day, or whatever). That would make it challenging to time with some specific XC convoy, or other gameplay.
Finding coherent general-case solutions to these kinds of issues is helpful to us. We may at some point have a whole lot more conquerable stations (and territory, and other concepts). I would rather not require re-conquest to allow an owner to make a basic change in usage.

I don't see any problem at all with allowing people to instantly revoke access to a station. In fact, that seems like exactly the sort of skulduggery people should be worrying about when visiting a station owned by players they don't fully trust.
I don't see any problem with an irrevocable public key
if the station becomes private and its in progress or has happened there should be a warning to the player of the taker and the other players, just in case they are away and it goes in private we would know when.
