Mobile Notifications
I saw the post on the General forums about this. I wonder if notifications could be set up in a "Discord-esque" way? IE "@Incarnate We've got a player convoy entering B-8!" would pop up a notification for Incarnate on his phone. Obviously, theyd be able to be turned off like every other app. Also notifications popping up if a player attacks your station, price of a trade good hits a threshold, CtC notifications, etc.
Dunno if this is possible, but it'd make for some interesting emergent gameplay.

This could be really cool even for non-mobile players. Imagine if you could enable 'Guild Notifications' so you could check guild chat without logging in, or see events. Always-connected Vendetta online 0,0

Yeah, I was considering things like this for future conquerable content at least.
It requires us developing a new connectivity system.. like a "service" that can run in the background on these phones and get regular updates. How real-time it actually is becomes dependent on whether you can justify yourself as some kind of legitimate connection / telephony application or not, otherwise most are forced to "sleep" and only allowed to wake periodically.
That's different from the simplistic game-notification version, that basically grabs all upcoming events when you login and then pings you about them later as the dates approach. The simplistic version is way easier to implement, and far less useful.
Anyway, there's a number of factors in approaching this. It would be super beneficial to keep people aware of what's going on, give them a means of communicating, and also just engaging the userbase as a whole.
It's probably not the hardest thing in the world to write (at least, for us, as MMO devs), but doing it across both Android and iOS would definitely have some time involvement, as well as possibly some wrangling with App Store Approval people.
I'd have to dig into it further..

Thanks for the reply! It would certainly engage more mobile users. I can speak for myself that I tend to log in to the games when I get a notification on something useful (ie Lineage 2 Revolutions we declared war on a clan, and got a popup).
Maybe even have a way to get in-game notifications sent to the email that's linked to that character?
Emails we can definitely do, we fully control that. Whether people want to be spammed that much is another question. It's also not quite so "instant" of an engagement, compared to a notification. But it's certainly much better than nothing.
Email had been my plan from long ago, before Notifications were a thing. But it would have to default to be pretty non-spammy and let you opt into more intensive usage if you wanted.
The other problem with email is if some big provider decides we're sending too many emails that all look the same (running afoul of Gmail's spam AI, for instance), that could suddenly kill our email reputation and screw over our newsletters and even our ability to send validation messages to new players.
So, email has a bit higher risk-factor than notifications.

Personally - I think that the social aspect of PM's and guild messages are the biggest pull. (Like those bots that stayed logged in so they could send 100 to IRC chat rooms. People like to yackity yack)
Though if you have notifications for your capital ships being attacked or stations being stolen...that would be an edge.
TLDR - I think most people would be happy if the contents of their chatlog file got sent to their phone, with filters for what's important enough to cause a notification

and what determines that filter? for the chatlog to constantly be going to your device? absolutely not - thats way overkill.
Simple Geometry.
Enable 'Push' Notifications
Private messages y/n
Only from 'friends'? y/n
Chat channel guild y/n
Chat channel 100 - y /n
Player death y/n
Capital ship death y/n
Station under attack y/n
New events added y/n
side complication - I could see reasons for it being a stand alone app like facebook has with messager. Fuck facebook for doing that, but for VO it might make sense because it's a much smaller community so only nerds are going to install it anyway - and PC user's might not want to install the game on their phone just to check messages. It also might make it simpler to implement - it could just be a web page linked to an account that gets updated with text from VO's servers.

I have to say i doubt i could find a use for this myself personally... And for messages and updates about communications, the irc does a lot of that. But the idea is great. A lot of players take station captures very seriously.
