Ion Storm logging
Well we've got all that blank space, so why not?
Anyway, What if whenever you entered a sector with an Ion, the nav would automatically note it so that if you reselected that sector later you'd get a note reminding you there was an ion there on your last visit.

Why do we want this?
You could simply use sector notes if you really wanted to...
Plot around roid sectors or just fly through them? Don't you use navcomp?
I dont use navcomp, but I also dont want annoying reminders >...>
I think everyone knows that ion storms only tend to happen in sectors with asteroids, and to plot around the asteroids. So, basically, over time this will just converge to be a list of places that have asteroids. Which all still begs the question to me about why we would need or want it.
Meh, good point. I should probably lay off the Tea, it works like alcohol on us brits
I’ll post a link to the plugin I use for this. It resets after log out.
Why we need this is because storms last for days not the few hours we’ve been told. Second if you know where they are at on certain routes its easier to kill ppl in nation space. Third they are just plain annoying.

Who told you that they only last a few hours? Even the old load screen prompt said they could last between hours and days.
Anywho, there is a plugin that does this, I thought it was on VOUPR but apparently not. It is not too bad for short sessions of trade, but after a few hours it will be telling you there are storms present when in fact there are not. Oh and you have to hit the storms in the first place to mark them as there.
It is actually a lot more useful to just presume there will be a storm in any route that passes over a roid field, and re-plot accordingly.

Yes. The notion of trying to predict or record weather will basically just re-converge to a list of sectors with asteroids.

Agreed. I rarely see storms when plotting under that assumption.
@Wash that link throws forbiddens. Mind sticking it on Dropbox or Google cloud.
updated.

Only if it's a permanent record. I think the idea here is for it to be a temporary record that expires after a day or two. Routing around storms is faster than traversing them, but slower than taking the direct route during times when there are no storms. If you travel frequently enough, you're better off taking the direct route until you encounter a storm, then routing around that storm for a couple days before trying to use the direct route again. This means you'll hit the occasional storm, but only once per storm. The wasted time to discover the storm is dwarfed by the time saved in the instances when there wasn't a storm. The catch is that this only works if you travel frequently and can remember where those storms you encounter are so that you can selectively avoid them until they've (probably) dissipated, which is where having a tool to assist in this comes in.
I'm not saying that VO should necessarily have such a tool. I'm fine with letting people either rely on their minds or a plugin like NavComp to do it, and baking it into the game might be wasted effort depending on whether storms are kept around after static reefs are introduced.
