So, outside of fight duels and racing, we dont have any kind of measurable sport. why not add some addon that fires a ball that uses the movement mechanics of scrap so we can make some new events? be nice if we could have this sector cleared so we have a stadium to play in, too.

the idea is for a mine launcher-styled item that deploys a single ball (reuse the mine, just scale it up?) that can be pushed with blasters or bumping. only a single ball can be launched at a time, but the launcher holds 8. a ball is destroyed if another is launched, but is not destroyed by damage. It has a max speed of 55m/s, and decels if pushed beyond this speed.

The idea is I start hosting space soccer in a sector (like H9), where pilots must move the ball behind either a designated asteroid formation or a gate made of dropped items (but that only gives us a short time to use).

I don't know if I like the implementation you described, but I also don't have any other idea on how to implement this either. But making an object that can be used to play a soccer-style game...bro you're speaking my language. Soccer and VO are by far my two most jams. This would give me a jam sammich.

Regarding goalposts, another option are deployable race gates - im talking about the rings from the offline mode. Whatever you call those. However, lets focus on a ball launcher for now, since with that and h9 cleared (or another stadium-style sector made) we can do something.

nihilus: indeed, something feels a little odd about it, but your right - how else would you do ball sports in VO and allow anyone to have a crack at it.

more sectors with fog can go to a different suggestion - so long as they dont cover up arena sectors like H9 im fine with fog. I just dont like its placement.

Photon projector? hrmm. If its good enough for Xeha in this case, I suppose so. any other ideas, though? the thing isnt being projected as much as launched, but an ionized light structure would explain why it cannot be destroyed by the incoming fire it receives (but who cares about that?)
