Character sector
Can you please add something that tells you what sector each character is in on the character selection screen?
Yeah, Ray, can you?
I think that would be a bad idea. The only people it would help are the griefers.
Oh, and maybe the devs too.

Heh
Well, it would help more then just the greifers. It would help me to know, that if i'm trading, <name removed> is in sector 7, and therefore it's a good idea for me to avoid this sector.
Personaly, I don't think it would be a good thing.

I believe he meant when you log in, there is a list of 6 character slots, and that he wanted it to say where each character on the selection list was.
Telling where you last parked your ship would help a lot.
Once the universe expands, I think the idea of knowing where people are could be cool, but only in the dense, heavily used sectors with city stations. There are going to be tons of people there anyhow. However in rim sectors (like the hidden ones now and such) it would be bad. You can hide if you want, show yourself as well.

I think it would be great.
btw Character Selction Screen is that place where you choose what char you want to play under. Nobody else can see it so no piracy or griefing, hiding or other issues would arise.

It might be a good idea to show where a character is located in the universe, but did'nt we want to prevent the multi-characters phenomona?
this will only encourage pirates and griefers to create a milion characters and when they know there is a trader going through s17 (does'nt matter how) he will chose the char in 17 and take his cargo in no time, and our trader will be in danger. That is because not only one pirate or grieffer will come but meny...one calling the other...
it will do more harm then good, at list now.

I don't know about you, but my connection isn't fast enough to allow me to log back out, then log back in by the time someone has made it across the galaxy. And I have DSL.
It might be a good point what you just said, that it takes time for you to log back in, BUT i know pirates (i wont say who) who have very fast connection.
now, even if some of you dont have fast connection, it's not only about you and in the future there will be alot faster connections and (asumibly) the server will be also faster.
cheers

I am all in favour of showing sector in char selector. I also find suggestions that it will be exploited proposterous. Pirates can already do what you suggesting they would do if it is implemented. With their HEADS remembering where they have left the ships and characters. Oh, the horror, outlaw using your head to remember your position while you are at it as well :)
