Nebula's etc.
I think we need Nebula's and stuff like that. A nebula would mess up your radar, and make ur targeting system flicker and all that good stuff. You could have ice clouds, gas clouds etc, all these could have different effects on ships, sight, and your controls...
Yes, I dont think up my ideas very well before I post them, so please dont tell me I didn't think them out, cause I didn't!
I thought up something very similar to this... an Ion Storm... I'll go find it.
"hehe... with all the talk about EMP "weapons"... why not have a naturally occurring event that happens say, once every hour or so in the non-aligned sectors (5,7,8,9,10,11,13,14,15,16,17,18) causing any ship hit by it to lose battery power for 30 seconds.
The effect could just be a simple wall effect coming from one side of the sector and going to the other. To escape it, you would dock, warp out, or use up your battery power ahead of time. (hint: use of multiple charge cannons here)
If you got hit by the wall, you would lose weapons and boost for 30 seconds. no big deal. Then batt would recharge... so it's fair to anyone in the sector. and I assume the bots could be affected by this too.
another idea for the emp part of the ion storm is that the time before your batt starts to recharge is related to the capacity of the battery, say 3/4 of a second per 10 units of juice... that would knock a heavy batt out for 41.25 seconds and an efficient/free batt out for 18.75 seconds.
Of course we could use the rate as .5 seconds per 10 units of juice... giving 12.5 seconds on the free/efficient batt and 27.5 on the heavy."

Or a storm bringing in unstable elements that need 10 minutes to move away, these, err, explode violently near turboing ships.
:)
(yes I am tired)
(yes, I am too lazy to make it readable)

Mmm... Nebulas... They're also great for tactical stuff... See the Wrath of Kahn (best... Star Trek movie... ever...)... Yay for hiding ships...
P.S. Tired, SL? That was pretty incomprehensible... :P

Also, when you go behind large roids, you need to not show on radar, unless turboing or moving, useful for hiding from pirates, or useful for pirates to surprise traders, or cap teams could hide in a dense asteroid field.
Funny, I thought the effect of an ion storm was to absorb lots of money and to enforce invisible barriers that prevent you from travelling without your buddy Superfly.
heh
