Yearly Events/Speciality days
It would be nice if we had some yearly events to look forward to. I'd like to hear others ideas but I was thinking this would be cool:
SuperBus Day - Everyone gets a single SuperBus for a 24 hour period. No XP for kills with it so it can't be abused for leveling. If it dies you are out of luck and at the end of 24 hours they are all yanked or self destruct.
and other ideas.......Go!

There should be annual events besides Christmas...
A Superbus? no - being a Dev should have a perk or two.

-1 We have weekly player events that people already don't attend.
Just a thought, maybe the Host and the rules are the reason no one shows up.
I really enjoyed the capture the flag events that were tested a few years ago. I liked the way it randomly assigned players to teams. It would be awesome if this could be automated as a weekly / monthly mission or if it could be handed over to the guides to run if they have time / inclination.
@Mi5 I for one never liked Nation War even when TGFT (my being a member was the only reason I used to participate) ran it because it is a sudden death event and I can't be bothered to disrupt what I'm doing to go wait in a sector until it's decided that everyone has shown up for a few minutes of action. -- Just my take on the main player run event.

In response to Fluffy:
I completely agree with that point. Which is why I have always tried having multiple rounds of NW (or the variant that I like to run; Team War). This has always turned into a shit show.
In response to Wash:
A pirate guild hosting an event was always kinda sketchy for some, I get it. But still. Blaqk's point is valid. Trust me. I ran NW for a few months. This was at a time that TRI was just popular and I was well-liked and we had beefy prize pools. Guess what. No one showed up several weeks. Ultimately it was demoralizing for me to keep running them and no one would show up. I'd plan my entire day around Nation War to have no one show up.
I think having a guide online to remedy some of the problems I personally experienced would have done wonders. I still don't think that would have made the event much more enjoyable for the people that would show up though. Like Fluffy said. You rush to a sector, sit there for 10 minutes, someone says go, then 5 minutes later it's over.
Having said all that, if I had some way of teleporting everyone to the desired sector of the event, I'd host team battles daily. The logistics of having to wait for people to come together, some of which are enemies outside of these events, is too big of a headache to make the effort worth it.
This isn't even mentioning the level that some would stoop to ruin an event hosted by someone that is their enemy. I now have enemies and this may cause even more problems for hosting future events.

The point is non player hosted things more a day of kind of thing. SuperbusDay was just one thought. Free week is a good example as well.
Maybe a race day thing where fastest times for the day in certain ships gets livery unlocked.
Creativity people come on.

Darth N hosted the last Nation War and only two people showed up.
Perhaps the reason nothing in this section gets any attention is because of your constant cancerous hostility towards anyone who doesn't bend to your whim.
What we need is more employees at Guild Software, and you know, ACTUAL moderation.

So the logic here is since no one wants to come to Nation War anymore for whatever reason there shouldn't be any other event opportunities?

Of course it's all my fault. It could have nothing to do with the fact they have way more important things to deal with to keep the game running. It's a suggestion / idea. You have made your opinion clear, thank you. How about we see if any others have thoughts on the subject.
So you ask me a question, then request I stay out of this thread? If we're on the topic of logic yours is outstanding. The reasoning was said best in your second response, the fact they have way more important things to deal with to keep the game running has clearly been THE reason for many things of VO.
All I am suggesting is that there are existing player hosted events that do not receive any attention from your side of the map and that instead of further reducing the time spent by the existing developers you should host your own, or attend the ones we already have.
Clearly as long as players such as yourself and those you associate continue to play this game, the amount of income from subscriptions and new registrations will not be enough to employ another developer anytime soontm.
I think CTF with momerath was the last actual "event" that a dev held that wasn't exclusively about testing something on the server or whatever... would be nice of course but I'm not holding my breath.
@Blaqk
I thanked you politely for your input. No where did I ask you to stay out of the thread.
I do believe you may have misssed my point that these are not supposed to be regular weekly things but once a year specialty days that players can look forward to.
WTF?
@greenwall
Spences CTF was fun. That could be another opportunity for an event.

There simply are too many obstacles revolving around player-led events, as Darth spelled out. I think it would be very good if the devs made this kind of thing a priority, but it appears as though the interest is not there to do that.
Spence CTF, gogo! We did it only a few times and it was fun as hell.
+1 to dev-hosted events coming back.
I think the dev-team shrinking from 4 to 3 people was no help with that. Maybe if they ever employ another guy, it can happen again?

It would be nice to have the devs hosting, but I'd rather not tie up their free or productive time in doing so unless it is something that they want to do because they enjoy it. I say automate these events on a regular schedule.
+1
Because nostalgia.

I've always wanted pumpkin shaped crates on Halloween.
Buy maybe instead of real holidays, we should invent some VO-universe holidays with their own themes and traditions (perhaps some corresponding to important dates in the backstory) and then find ways to work them into the game.
