Search for Commodities
There needs to be a Search button in the commodities tab to allow you to search for an item and have it return the closest sstation selling that commodity.
Having to hunt this stuff down by just going to random stations is tedious and aggrivating.

Right now you're soundin like a TGFT. Except they came up with a plugin to solve this problem themselves. Maybe look into that?
Catalog plugin. Every time you visit a station it "catalogs" whats sold in station.
Best usage /cat wp "name" , and no need of full name, can be just part. You welcome.

My point is you shouldn't have to visit each station to know what is sold there. This should be a built in function of the game to search for the closest place that sells something. When you have missions that requires these dumbass things that are only at certain stations you waste time flying around to find it. It is supposed to be a game not a second fucking job.
also
A) I will not install any plugin made by TGFT
B) you still have to go to the each station, that defeats the purpose of what this suggestion is about.

Catalog is made by Pizzasgood, I thought he is Yarr! person.
Have a read on description, it does a lot of other things, you would like it.
Too much presumptions going on man. The only TGFT plugin I use is Trade Assistant, and that's 0.1% of my time.

+1 common sense
If we have spaceships we certainly must have existing catalogs of trade info.

I always thought the lack of this was there to facilitate the exploring aspect of the game. However, after having visited a station once this becomes tedious.
I'm good with the plugin solution but will still give a +1

Plug ins are a better solution to this as they can be done on a custom basis and geared to the different users.
I do think that an overhaul of the different lua functions to handle player inventory would be a big help.
There is a distinct lack of consistency in the commands which makes the whole thing rather confusing at times.
Better tools make for better results....

I dread at the thought of using plug-ins for that.
We had enough drama with TGFT honey pot plugins that did that (among other more sinister behind the scenes work).

+1. I don't think this is a high priority thing, but all the same, I don't think it's something people should have to rely on plugins for over the long run.
I don't mind if an implementation expects players to visit a system at least once before being able to see that system's data. Requiring frequent visits to stay abreast of any price or inventory changes seems like it might be a bit much, though. It's fine at the moment, but will become onerous when the supply-side economy is fully deployed.

Well, the specific issue with TGFT Utils is that it reports a lot of non-obvious data to a TGFT controlled server, thus permitting TGFT to potentially use that data for nefarious purposes. However, reporting data to others is not a necessary function in a plugin that merely tracks item prices and availability. My Catalog plugin works just fine without ever sending any data to anybody. And anyone who doubts that can read through the code themselves to verify it. Even if you can't program yourself, there are a lot of people in this game who can, and very few of them would be willing to overlook my doing anything shady.

TA. Catalogue. Plugins are there for a reason.
-1 simply due to the fact i do this specific requsst on a daily basis, without the need to waste dev time on it.
I think they aim for an unmodified version of the game to be as minimalist as possible.

I endorse catalog. However I am probably one of the few people that would be likely to be considered willing to overlook Pizzasgood doing anything shady.
Does Catalog work across all characters or does each one have to build its own list?
It's like targetless....alt specific.
However you can easily copy the file across.

Hoban, catalog uses system notes to record its informatikn. This means that it is recorded on a per character basis. But it also means you can copy the details across to a new char with a modicum of expertise.
Or, just copy everything. Copy the contents of the folder within settings named after the character with the info to the folder named after the new character. Simples.
This will copy most data associated with plugins, including your targetless roid info for instance, but not all settings as some p,ugins store settings within vo's own settings.

Specifically, Catalog uses this file: ~/.vendetta/settings/<NAME>/system64700723046notes.txt
