Suggestions for Capital Ships.
I wasn't going to post anything but Inevitable reminded me how dumb whining is, Plus Sieger and Whistler said something about sand and deserts. HOPE!
Here are my serious suggestions for the Goliath.
For the Goliath:
Buff the Goliaths cargo to 600cu and add docking bays that can only hold two ships under 300cu. Add one large weapon slot and two small so that it can mine as efficiently as the BHM or possibly be used for combat against a nemesis Trident Type M, this would make self-defense against other capital ships both fun and risky depending on which of the two you intend to fly and what you would be defending against.
For the Trident:
Cargo bays are not much of an issue for the Trident, what is, however, is the ship's current position as a capital hauler and it's cargo bay being used to stuff in as many XC's as possible. People went insane over a battlewagon because the Trident isn't, it can't de-shield smaller capital ships, it can't defend itself without fighter support and a variety of plugins are necessary to make it usable for a solitary pilot (Turbolock, turrethop etc)
What I suggest is that the Trident is adjusted to be serve as both a hauler and a combat vessel, it shouldn't outperform the Goliath by a measure of two at hauling, but should more efficient based on the effort required to build it. The Trident should be able to support five ships without taking up any cargo space, one docking 300cu and the other four docking only 200cu or lower ships.
It should have two large slots and one small for combat and self-defence. I wouldn't change its base statistics because otherwise, it would become more solo pilot orientated when the game's design is as much about team play as anything else.
For NPC Capital ships:
Make Convoy Capital ships attack aggressors with front facing weapons and turrets, make the rest of the convoy stop and engage, because this will force a Trident/Goliath pilot attacking a TPG Constellation to bring help, reinforcing the need for multiple players to down capital ships. A Goliath or Trident may be able to deshield it, but then what? The Cruiser/Transport/Frigate would turn its guns on you, its convoy would approach and everything would rely on player skill yet again, leaving your only hope being your team or skill at guiding the ship away from the front facing guns while fighting off the rest of the convoy.
The general idea:
If all Player owned Capital ships are capable of harming all other player-owned capital ship, then the game drifts away from "Bigger ship mean better" and more towards having an intelligent fitting, capable pilot and strong team of players that can win battles that otherwise would have been limited to whoever built the biggest ships. Since NPC Capitals almost always have convoys they will almost always need a team of players to successfully bring them down.
The Trident wouldn't be able to take down a TPG Constellation on its own and a Goliath pilot would need to be superbly skilled to successfully shoot down a Trident. Everything falls back to player skill, teamwork and practice winning the day. New tactics and clever setups would arise from the initial conflicts between guilds, solitary players and NPCs allowing every player to choose between the classic VO fighter combat that made VO so great and an enhanced second tier of PVP that would be slower, more tactical and still incredibly exciting.
Boom! VO is now exciting, fun and twitch orientated on a level matched by no other game that exists.
Also, this suggestion https://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/3/33100 should be given alot of thought, it would make nationalism fun.
