Ship wear and tear
PaKettle made an interesting point here
Many of the older ship models have dents, dings, and damage drawn onto their textures. That makes sense, but not if a ship is brand new.
Could the livery system be adapted to add wear and tear to ships that've been launched, used, and repaired a lot? That would add some character to what is otherwise just an impersonal disposable widget. NPCs convoys launched from grey space could look more beat up and run down than those on their maiden voyage from TPG's HQ.
Players might have that one high end fighter that's been through dozens of battles and won every single one of them.

This would do a lot to the game feel.
A sidenote/suggestion from me: Multiple colour choices on each ship, by that I mean the possibility to paint different parts of the ship body in different colours, like a Behemoth in white and red, an Atlas could be e.g black with green stripes and so on.

Aye - any realistic freighter is going to have a beat up look to it eventually.
Fighters tend to accumulated scars such as bullet marks and burns more then rust so really we are talking 2 different schemes....
Perhaps adding the new textures to the convoys would be a good intro?
(Must have had a real banner day - 2 suggestions that someone liked....)

gray convoyz look more new, because they are, given they are constantly destroyed by pirates.

+1 Think this is a great idea as well.
+1, but just more livery would be fine anyways.

Sometimes I'll have the same ship for weeks! Surviving many a fight. It would be cool to wear the damage it has taken in some form, even after a repair.
