It's fine as it is.

If you are going to support something at least give a reason why, the time spent playing with guild tags could be spent on s/p

+1, at least in monitored space. People can name their ships whatever misleading crap otherwise.

And those that are unguilded?
Pretty sure you are the only unguilded trident Faille and we know yours by name.

The Trident is not a "member" of the guild. It's a ship. Giving it a tag makes no sense.
It's not my problem if you didn't take notes on the name of my Trident.

+1 to add the Player tag to the trident,
+0.5 for the guild tag.
Player tag is probably much more important...

Both of them?
Regardless, seems simply more fun to leave them untagged.

If it doesn't already, it should add the name of the owner somewhere in the trident's character page.

And then the rats will all cry foul because they will lose their anonymity.
What you really are asking for is an information screen like the player one.
+0 I have to say this is a mixed bag at best

"And then the rats will all cry foul because they will lose their anonymity."
Um, I am a pirate, so clearly not all the rats will cry foul. One of the reasons I want to be able to ID a trident is so that I can more reliably respect the property of those who have paid me. If I were a nationalist, I'd want this functionality so that I'd know whether that random UIT trident belongs to an ally of my enemies or not, and so on.
I don't see this as any more of a violation of privacy than the fact that you can ID me in a normal ship. It's not like my physical presence has anything to do with that. You aren't looking through my canopy and recognizing my face. The ship is identifying itself as mine, so why wouldn't a trident do the same?
I do think there should be ways to gain anonymity and that those should work with tridents as well, but I don't think simply undocking from a trident should make it anonymous. If anything, a trident should be less anonymous than a smaller ship, not more.
