Create incentives to PvP

This is seriously the core of the game.

Without combat, 90% of the players don't have fun, because no other aspect of the game is ready yet (dynamic economy, new capital class ships, dynamic PvE conquest).

So why, do we have a game where most players in the game go out of their way to avoid combat?

Probably because the devs are always bending over to long time players in TGFT (who think it's more fun to wait out wars, trying to claim victory because their opponents got bored), and other carebears.

Then, not only did they give carebear protections to traders and newbs, they added the Greyhound, which is now universally used as the traders main transport in dangerous space. Not only is the Greyhound near-uncatchable (is uncatchable when you don't use a Greyhound yourself to chase), anyone with any kind of ability to turbo tap IS uncatchable.

So, I ask for incentives to not just turn tail and flee as soon as you see another player. Because at this rate, you're not going to have combat a big part of your game anymore when you tailor your game around the traders and people who have a vested interest in not dying.

And by that logic, you're probably not going to have a game either.

I agree with the the OPs last paragraph and suggestion, though I think the rest is opinion not necessarily true or relevant.

This is a great example of how not to make a Suggestion.

For one thing, there's no actual specific Suggestion here, just a vague notion of how things should be "improved". Which is an easy rock to throw without specifics, because specifics are where the real debates start.

It's like saying "hey, we should have world peace!" and everyone cheers, and then you say "we could just wipe out the human species entirely, and then it would be peaceful" and people go "wait.. what?". Until you discuss implementation, it's all window-dressing.

For another, sprinkling your "suggestion" with a lot of specific accusations about how the devs "are always bending over to long time players in TGFT" and other nonsense is not likely to garner you any positive attention from the only people who can actually change anything.. namely the devs.

Then you level a bunch more vague "carebear" accusations, and then complain about the Hound, which I specifically added at the behest of pirates. I've already said I'm open to nerfing it, but we haven't been doing any gameplay changes lately.

The fundamental premise of your goal is sound, and fine: I certainly don't have any problem with incentivizing PvP (at least, at a vague, general level where all ideas sound good?). But it should be written (in a reasonably friendly and respectful way) to support some kind of specific idea.

So, if you want to create a new suggestion, that has some real solution to propose, and doesn't just sound like a bunch of angsty whining, then feel free to create a new thread.

To reiterate points I've had to make elsewhere, this is not the "complaints" forum. It's actually the "propose and debate specific ideas in a hopeful, respectful way" forum. Nothing else belongs on here.
