The title says it all. Let me explain why.
I must admit, for a long while I did not even know mobile people had an autofire function. Mostly because I did not bother to read myself into the mobile player scene. Why would I? I exclusively play on a PC.
But it exists and as I understand it, it seems to take the burden of pulling the "fire" button away, since the mobile players only have two hands to coordinate their flying on a touchscreen, right?
If this is so, I see the merit behind this. To dodge properly while firing your blaster continously, you'd need 3 hands way more often than not if you're fighting a good PC pilot.
Tragically, there is a weapon that gets insanely overpowered when a few circumstances are given. The weapon in question is the rail gun. If the mobile pilot is any experienced, all he has to do is steer his ship into the right direction. The AutoFire will kick on and since the rails have such high velocity, their shot is almost guranteed to hit at a certain distance. Very seldomly is the autofire system inaccurate.
You may hold against this that this should be okay. You can fly defensively after all or try better at dodging. But the second problem that makes this a thousand times worse is the usual lag that mobile players bring with them. They're very dodge and icky and zooming about and suddenly the rails hit you out of nowhere since the AutoFire aims extremely accurate for them. There's nearly no skill involved in this. The aiming is done for you, all you gotta do is steer your boat right.
So I suggest: Remove the possibility of AutoFire for Rail Gun class weapons entirely. As I see it, AutoFire is meant as a help so mobile players can still dodge properly while firing their guns all the time. I see that it makes sense for blaster type weapons that you fire very often (e.g. the Neutron Blaster). But I see no reason why a Rail Gun (that you only fire once in a while) should get the same advantage. Asking the mobile player to use one hand to hit the fire button quickly while he's in a good position is not too much to ask for.
Note that I suggest this especially cause there's no end to the lagging problem in sight.

I need to check this but I don't think rails do actually auto-fire, they are like other limited ammo weapons such as rockets and missiles...
Try touchscreen android sometime Sieger, maybe you'll realise how energy PvP is pretty much impossible versus good players (I don't mean using a controller)

i don't think ammo weapons auto fire, i tried putting flares on primary once and it wouldn't shoot them
Well, if it turns out this isn't already the case, then +1 to fixing it.
Bit of a tricky issue, but it does make sense for ammo based weapons.

according to AJ, you can turn on autofire on rails when your docked via configure ship... so yes, +1
Hell might be getting slightly chilly tonight.
+1 to the op

Add AutoFire to all versions and let everyone pwn Sieger with Rails!
I've fought many of aj's with his rail set up and haven't seen this as advantage. If any thing you can just make him waste ammo. I'm guessing you are resorting back to your tgft self and since you got killed by something you are coming here whining about it..
Instead how about you go get on mobile, equip rails, fight a few vets and see how it works out for you.

Thanks for the feedback, all.
CrazySpence - Yes, it does not work on Rockets. It'd probably be uncomfortable if it did because rockets do not fly as fast and that may mess with the way the AutoFire aims for you.
Hule. - Nice idea but it has flaws. If we add it to all versions, I can just do that overpowered stuff aswell and use it on everybody :P
Inevitable - I have no problems with fighting that setup. After being surprised by it, I've quickly developed some strategies that work very well on any mobile player making use of that. It's not about a personal problem I have with this, it's about the unproportional advantage that is gained when someone is using it right. The player you are mentioning (for whatever reason...?) is mostly not doing it right.
Besides that, take away your role playing bullshit here and be constructive. I don't need, nor do I care about your shit and crazy theories. I did not mention any names in this thread before you stumbled in, especially since there are multiple mobile users who've found that strategy by now.

Railguns do autofire, and it's not as easy as it looks.
I submit that anyone posting in this thread either for or against should have at least tried it on a smartphone or mobile device, bearing in mind the other relative disadvantages that already come with playing on mobile versus PC.

My comment has nothing to do with role play. It's about the negative repetitive behaviour of a certain group of people. But as I was saying go on mobile equip rails and try to use them. Then come back here and tell us how advantageous you felt.

If there's a weapon that gives a mobile player a possibility of damaging a PC player, I'm all for it. Maybe the real issue here is that all the other stuff is just too slow?

Checked and basic rails did AF....having said that they do miss as well.
Still maintain that PvP on phone or tablet is a poor experience, so -1

The whole point of rails is the skill required to pull the trigger at the exact right moment - a fraction of a second too soon or too late, and your massive damage and velocity advantage evaporate while you lose a huge chunk of battery and a valuable pellet. Having the game handle both AA and AF on them is incredibly stupid, regardless of how well or how poorly it works.

I use autofire all the time; while I haven't used it with rails (I prefer flares in my wraith's ports), I cant say its as accurate as you describe with any kind of gun I've used. however, ill hop on tonight and give this a try and see what comes of it.
-1 because then AJ is gonna quit vo
you can actually autofire with rails and hit people?
i gotta try this shit :DDD

There is seriously not nearly enough potential for abuse with this for it be a problem.
I have tried it and I have fought many mobile users and PC players just wanting to experiment with it. I know how to use a particular rail loadout well and I am effective with it. Any loadout with rails in it, however, has significant disadvantages to it.
First off, rails are heavy and ammo based. They also become increasingly difficult to use, the closer the opponent gets. Close combat is already a setback while playing on mobile.
Any combo with rails is so easily bested that this is not even a problem worth discussion in my opinion.
There's always gonna people who wants to take any and every advantage that mobile has over PC players because they have sandy...never mind. #PCMASTERRACE

-1 stop being a crybaby! Hell half the time auto fire fires them after the fact.
