I can agree that upping the "armor" of cargo by x the amount that is floating in space is a fair approach to make it less dangerous for farming parties.
But abortretryfail has rightfully named mines as a remaining danger. Most of the time, when there is heavy farming of whatever item going on, someone will use lmines, someone else will fire blasters etc. The mines theirself are already a dangerous factor that will prevent large stocks with big armor from even existing, as all the little drops will immediately be eliminated. Not only this, instead of using their power on the bots, the mines will be used up to destroy the drops. Haha...
Sieger, it might be good for game play to have players make sure that what they want to keep gets stored in a ship if they consider it valuable.
Yes, you are right mate. But I do that after there is a reasonable stock floating. And by reasonable I mean it has to atleast fill half of my Trident. I also never had the timing out issue. I could farm in the same sector for ages and still everything would be there. Your mistake here may be leaving the sector.
And get the plugin cargolist to tell you what items are where. :)
I see where the people who suggest this are coming from. It's an idea that simply makes sense and would probably make the game more realistic. But I don't see it being useful for anyone and I don't see it improving gameplay in any way. It'll be more of a hinderance than an improvement. And it would takes ages to implement it right with many followup tweaks since someone isn't happy with how easily cargo is destroyed/with how long it takes to destroy cargo etc...

There is no reason to have mines target cargo in the first place. (Yay, more special cases!) The only real risk mines should pose to cargo is from the splash of a TU.

add it to list of things we should be able to destroy. (like that 99% helio roid you're cherishing)
Perhaps destroying roids might be a stretch, but moving them around would be cool. Consider it a WTF moment. ;)

I've always understood that if we made it possible to move asteroids around, I would suddenly have a lot of sectors with asteroid-penises. Or various words.
It would be interesting though. But that's a bit OT..

There's not a single person in this game that would take such a cheap opportunity to have a giant penis flying around VO space...not a single one
