Aurora Corvette?

Mar 02, 2016 Piment link
Since people have been complaining about the time that takes to make a trident type M, maybe a new capital ship should be introduced. Smaller then a frigate, bigger then a regular spaceship, like a behemoth.

I say that a corvette should be added. It's manufacturable variant, the Aurora Type M/P/S could be manufactured at Latos M-7, and it would require less parts, since it would be a smaller vessel, with a smaller hold(400-600cu) and two turrets.

I'm still thinking on the stats, so if you have any idea please reply(Constructive criticism pls).

If Piment isn't Trump, maybe he's Bush?

Please Clap.

I actually like this idea though. Having a class of ship that is larger than a fighter, but smaller than a capital vessel, i.e. a gunboat/corvette.

The only changes I'd make to the manufacturing components needed would be to strip the ship of docking ports and reduce the cargo capacity (it's a gunship after all, not a capital or support vessel) while adding in 2-4 RBH. If I remember the Reinforced Bulkhead blurb correctly, it's an integral ship component.

If there were definable roles beyond "pilot" in VO, it would be salient. Yet as it stands the only other role for people not piloting a craft is currently gunner, which is awkward at best. Give VO some time, when existing PVP mechanics are expanded on and added to (1.9?) and VO has a dedicated CGI-trained artist (2.0?) and corvette's will be a winner.

Here's the main problem with introducing new ships: they need new models. Yes, technically the devs can adjust the dimensions of existing models to some extent, but taking that too far will result in the textures not looking right, or the ship just looking odd or out of place.

I don't know where Musabi's graphical talents lie. He might be able to do the 3D modeling and texture mapping necessary for a new model, but that is still not something that can just be slapped together, and they are on a tight production cycle as it is right now.

If you have the skills and would be willing to contribute new assets, Incarnate will take them under consideration, but you should review the following threads first.

Is this ship to be insured against loss like a trident or need to be rebuilt like a superlite? If it's to be rebuilt I think the components are too costly. My preference would be insured with similar but different building requirements. I'd also like to be able to make more than one of them so I can park them in different places for later use.

If there are to be gunners I would lean toward having a docking bay, it sucks when you're gunners lag out and can't get back on board without a trip back to the station.

I think the cargo capacity should be 390, which means it can carry two of the 195cu thingies. That makes it desirable as a hauler but not diminish the value of the trident as a next step as a higher capacity might.

Yer such a bone-kill draug. A new ship shouldn't be considered a "problem".

I was thinking that it could just be a smaller capship, 400cu cargo which could hold the pilot's ship and the gunner's(seeing that in the trident, usually people don't have more then 3 gunners, so 1 turret is always left.

That is why I only want 2 docking bays, and yes, it would be insured like the Trident, for 350k maybe?

+1. Sure but...

Think about when we last had a new ship introduced next time before you make a thread like this. It is not gonna happen.

The best realistic chance for seeing a new ship in the game is going to work yourself as draugath said. Design the whole ship, make 3D models, animations etc. etc. and make sure you do all the work you can do without the developer status so that you can minimze the work the devs have left when you pass your work over.
And I'm sure there's more problems that I can't think of right now that stand in the way. Solve them all.
And do it for free, too.

Otherwise we're not gonna see any completely new designed ships we never had before. They're way too busy keeping it all smooth. And always keep in mind they're 3 people now. That they keep this game alive with only 3 men is already insane work in itself. momerath42's leaving was never officially announced, if I remember correctly, but it's obvious that he's gone. (Feel free to correct me here. Right now I can only think of incarnate, raybondo and Musabi as active, permanent developers.).

The best (but unlikely) scenario would be someone rich donating a big load to Guild Software so that they can hire a ton of workers that design 3 cool new ships per month. So you all better get busy playing the lottery...

regarding ship models, are there any example designs some of us can work with, just for playing around with ship models on that kind of scale?
