I think you need to make more money, consider selling adspace?
Its really not for us but the devs....if you made more money subscription prices would go down popularity would go up.....and just ....why not?? Instead of having weird japanese looking signs outside of bases....use it for adspace to make some $$$......by the way I HATE ADS!!!!......i just dont want to see vo go under....so im willing to take one for the team.....**gulp*** and promote advertising......i do kinda feel dirty now.....but it wouldnt be so bad flying your ship by an ad.....very strict tho maybe technology based like the oculus vr only ..ect......lmfao!!! viagra? omg!......prob not the best suggestion ever and ill prob get flamed.....but thats the first thing i thought when flying by those billboards of the land of the rising sun
It's pretty difficult to make money with advertising, you need a truly massive number of people before the revenue becomes meaningful. But we have considered it. It would both reduce the quality of the game considerably, and it would probably not make us much money.
Basically, floating signs in space are not something of value to advertisers. They want interstitial pop-ups, that have complete control of the screen, that then play some kind of video. Talk about annoying..

As long as it is John Bergman's face/voice on the video advertising the newest shimmy mop I wouldn't mind.
Well, thank you, I'll keep that in mind :).
Kinda like how VO got Greenlighted back March 4, 2014 to Steam and they still haven't finalized it.

Sigh.

I dunno what that really has to do with the price of eggs in china.. but even back when we were greenlit, I figured it would be awhile (well, once the Kickstarter failed, anyway). Definitely not this long, but I didn't expect to move the server. C'est la vie.
Anyway, what better way to launch on Steam than on the back of VR? The game will certainly be in a lot better shape than two years ago. Still pretty far from ideal, but much better off.
The trouble with launching on a platform earlier, and then getting thrashed in reviews, is that can haunt you forever and basically prevent further success. Like, say, our crappy rating on the Play Store having kept us from being featured by Google.
I imagine we'll still get beaten up in reviews on Steam, but at least I'll have done what I could.

It's not the price that is really the culprit of low player count and/or revenue.
It's an overlapping subjects but it's also a catch 22. Advertiser based games are already popular and mostly free for subscribers in some cases.
However, the cost to operate even a free game with plenty of server power and bandwidth still has costs associated with administration, updates, bug repairs and implementing new features.
Growth becomes bound to revenue and player subscription. However there is probably room for Advertising revenue but advertisers want volumes of exposure and so it's all overlapping to player activity again.

Third party advertising in game is out of the question in my opinion. Often those links are insecure, demanding of the connection, and just plain annoying. May the only reference ever to ads in VO is the absence of!
Google play can suck a fat one there whole rateing system is fubar....but thank you for the android version of vo....i would be screwed without it
