Just forgot to add that the whole idea about comparing jet fighter F18 and prop Twin Otter and trying to apply that comparison to VO ships like valkyrie and centaur is ridiculous.
Sure you can do that but then valkyrie should have like 20 S and 4L weapon slots and centaur should have a top turbo speed of 80 and thrust of 100N and maybe pilot could carry a handgun for defense.
Centaur is 'armored and heavily armed transport ship" much more in line with Kawasaki C-1.

It's an analogy, not an absolute. None of us have any idea what personally-sized spacecraft would look like, thousands of years from now. The value in the analogy is pointing out that engineering-design and intended use-case can drastically alter the properties of a given ship/car/airplane/whatever.. even within the same relative size.
The rest of it basically falls under "Umm, it's a game".
It's also not uncommon for the design of transportation to be limited by some agreed-upon factor. Like the US Department of Transportation has specific sizes that must not be exceeded, and that guides a great deal of vehicle development (even outside the US, simply because the US is a large market).
Similarly, sizing can often be driven by historical factors, like the old history-joke about the Space Shuttle being sized by a horse's behind (which, as far as I know, is actually true.. train-tunnel size definitely impacted the development of certain airplanes). So, it's also reasonable to expect that a civilization with a standardized "small docking bay" would build a lot of ships to be compatible with that. Which is functionally what's happened here.
Anyway, if the goal is more variety.. I agree, we should add new ships, of more varied sizes. Hell, maybe even some really small ones with very limited value. But I maintain that the existing ships are fine.

I agree, it's a game. Limitations were set and all ships work fine within those limitations.
However, adding more variety in ships is always good, if for nothing else, then to make the game look like it's growing and expanding.
Smaller & bigger ships sounds great but, alas, there is another limiting factor introduced with the trident.
As a frigate, trident combat capabilities are quite pathetic. Adding a middle sized combat ship class like, for instance, a gunship would become very tricky if trident stays as it is. But... this is for some other thread at another time.
Thanks Raging John.

The word "frigate" means about as much to me as the word "medium". Especially since the Trident was named long before it actually had an emergent role in the game.
We'll add more stuff, like midrange ships, when we can. The only reason why we don't now is a lack of experienced artists. Variety is good!

This thread made me laugh!.....i have no particular opinions on the topic though.......maybe we could have a T.A.R.D.I.S???
