Need Whistler

Jan 25, 2016 jordanmorgan14f link
Whistler deleted my last suggestion, suggesting we nerf everything. I demand we nerf moderators and their cheat forum blasters. Way too OP.

Also nerf autocorrect. For some reason it thinks I need Whistler.

Whistler did not remove your thread, I did. Yes, it was a "joke", but this isn't the place for that.

Now, you've gone and made another stupid thread, a minute later. And I, in turn, have muted you from Suggestions for the next 24 hours.

It is in your best interest to read the updated Forum Guidelines, posted over this past weekend, and adhere to them in the future.

People who waste my time, and clog up my forums with content that is unhelpful or unwanted, are not going to be welcome here. I will straight ban anyone from the entire game who can't bring their behaviour around to align with our requirements (long-time subscriber or not).

I have just had to burn way too much time managing stupid crap over the last six months, due to people behaving badly on the forums. And the little available developer-time is a commodity too precious to waste on a handful of people who behave badly; it ends up being to the detriment of the community as a whole.

Mmph. Somehow I thought a post entitled "Need Whistler" would be sexeh.

All this highlights what I view as my mission here: keeping Inc and Ray's noses to the game development grindstone, rather than wasting valuable time dealing with drama and behavior. While I'm happy to see some new tools and guidelines to help improve the forum experience, I regret the time it took away from the game itself.

Never fear, sempai! Through the power of dry-erase, I can fix this!

I don't see how this thread still exists in the Suggestions forum - bearing in mind the new Forum Guidelines that were introduced recently. Can I suggest to maybe move this post to Off-Topic?

Also this:

I have just had to burn way too much time managing stupid crap over the last six months, due to people behaving badly on the forums.

I might be wrong but it seems to me there is a causality problem that keeps being overlooked.
People behave badly in-game and cause other people to 'start behaving badly' in forums.
Can you, at least, acknowledge that people behaving badly in-game bear some responsibility too?

If I had to guess, it would be to retain the disciplinary point that Incarnate made within the Suggestions forum. It should be locked not moved imo.

I know that there is bad behavior both in the game and in the forums. It does spill over, both because sometimes it's the same people behaving badly. and sometimes because of the frustration and lack of agency that people who have felt victimized in the game may feel (rightly or wrongly).

I'll go ahead and lock this.

Some of the specific situations I referenced that wasted huge amounts of time were basically small non-events that happened in the game, and then were blown wildly out of proportion by people on the forums (basically with hypocritical, ill-informed propaganda). So, effectively, the real "problem" under discussion here is the people on the forums, and really only a few people.

If one is genuine about wanting what is best for the game and community, there is never a good reason to start a public flamewar versus quietly submitting some support tickets.

So, no, I really don't buy into the whole "bad stuff in the game made me do it" argument. The people who exacerbated these problems knew better at the time they were doing it. All this policy change does is codify my current and future intolerance of this bad behaviour.

The very irony about your post, Bojan, is that, in cases like the PK issue.. the people who truly "behaved badly in-game" were punished (for their responsibility, as you put it), but the other people who helped blow it completely out of proportion with a lot of forum flaming.. were not.
