I see no reason to allow out of game IRC chatting to online general chat channel 100
I definitely don't appreciate off game chatters being allowed to spam and/or insult in game players on general chat 100 channel for any reason. Having to /leave 100 seems lame, for any player that is online, to have to block chat from a player that is not even in game.
100 is suppose to be general chat for in game players not off game text chatting.
This would seem to be one of the simplest logical subjects for any online MMORPH game.
Are there any other games that allow this ?
Anyhow that is just my suggestion.

You could just /ignore the IRC bot. Problem solved.

You should have to play the game to comment. Maybe allow reading of 100 but no peanut gallery commenting from the IRC.

The devs have already implemented a feature that lets you pretend any player doesn't exist in chat.
Just /ignore the IRC relay.

Better yet, nerf all TCP/IP connections via lua.
dont need tcp/ip through lua to do irc relay so that's not going to help you.
Thanks for the explanation. Let me rephrase the suggestion: nerf IRC from external sources.
Ore, you can't. It's that simple. The only thing they can do is attempt to enforce the use of 3rd party programs to input commands into the game. But that's a very slippery slope, considering how many HIDs support macro input.
I can't but Inc can. The suggestion was for Guild, not for ITAN.
Well, they wouldn't need to make it impossible. Unlike some things, two-way IRC relays are pretty obvious given the whole "multiple people talking through them" bit, so they could just make them against the rules and then ban anybody who doesn't obey. That wouldn't stop read-only relays (which are not obvious), but it would mostly prevent them being used as a group chatting platform on 100.
Anyway, -1. If there are specific people on IRC who annoy you, you can use a plugin to selectively ignore them. If you want to ignore IRC in general, you can just /ignore IRC. If people on IRC are being particularly disruptive, you can /vote mute IRC.

No, I want people to play and IRC trolls to get rekt. If you wanna perve out in IRC, fine. You go right ahead and do that, but littering the chat with inanities when you're not even in the game is just ridiculous and contributes to the overall toxicity of the game.
ch.100 is littered with toxicities regardless of IRC being active.

Seems like something Inc might want to reduce in the future.

This is what most people think of ch 100:
[100] <lousierDog> on channel 1 they explain better here is for general insults and stuff
IRC participation in what is actually happening in general chat is negligible.

I often hang around in IRC after I finish playing and continue answering newb questions. IRC is not inherently bad; you're asking to throw the baby out with the bathwater. If you have an issue with people's use of an IRC relay, the correct course of action is to contact the person operating the relay and get them to mute the offenders. If they refuse to act, then you should file a support ticket with the devs, as the operator of a relay is responsible for the conduct of those who use it.
Or, you know, just /ignore IRC.

It's easy enough to ignore IRC if you find it annoying. Why take it away from the people who do find it useful?
I don't personally use IRC very often to send chat to 100 from out-of-game, but I do find it immensely useful to be able to read the chat from out-of-game. For example, if someone requests EMS assistance and no EMS players are currently online, then I'll log in. It's also nice to be able to read the chat while logged on to the test server.
If IRC were somehow abolished, then I'd just end up logging in AFK for extended periods of time on my own character, keeping sectors awake unnecessarily, and the people on my buddy list would have a harder time telling whether I'm actually playing the game or not.

There's already a mechanism to easily /ignore IRC.

Just out of curiosity what other games let you spam the IRC chat when you're not even logged in? I feel like VO should have less emphasis on chat. Especially with mobile devices.
