Hehe. The FM's been drinking again. All this stress over the community is causing him to hit the bottle.

Duffman hands out kegs.
Duffman gets totaly wasted then pukes on lemming's fur.

This time FOR SURE
They're great and all, but real life solar cells are shiny, and less green. Just a little thing that would make the s4 station look a lot better.
:)
:)
it looks like they're coved in moss or something. they're that green. But hey, it's like 400 years in teh future or so, maybehtey make em green then
They're coated in a special form of chlorophyl to absorb sunlight more efficiently than modern solar panels. Duh!
The one's in 4? They look spot-on to me. A deep charcoal-green with a shiny (but not glossy) finish. The green is rather subtle with my system - all setting maxed.
On my screen the green is very very dark. I have everything maxed too.
I'm with FM. They are shiny and charcoal. Although, what with all the defbots exploding on them, I have a hard time seeing them sometimes.
They definitely need to be shiny. That's my only complaint about 'em. Otherwise I think s4 station is by far the coolest station design in the game. EVER!!
I'm with FM on this, I agree with Arolte though that they should be a little shinyer but they look fine the way they are as well. s4 station is the coolest overall station in the game!
A shiny solar panel is an inefficient one. The energy is gained by ABSORBING the light, not refelcting it. So then the darker it is, the more energy it makes.
Nevertheless I do think that a reflecting solar panel LOOKS cooler.

Why are today's solar panels shiny then? I think what you're thinking about is heat. The reason it's glossy like that is to reflect the heat off so the panels don't overheat. If you make it too much of a matte surface, all the heat gets absorbed and... KABOOM!!! Bye bye, solar panels.

The solar cells used in space have a cover "glass" that is treated with both an anti-reflective coating to admit more photons that fall within the useful spectrum, and UV reflective coatings that deflect ultraviolet and near-infrared spectrums to avoid heat damage.
That said, who cares about the exact science of these things? The devs have a definite idea of the look and feel of the game. These things will get tweaked as progress is made.

Boy, you really had to ruin our fun!
