I would be for the idea in general, so long as the rate of standing loss is linked to time ingame. I agree that a greater range of activities, such as fulfilling a bounty kill should enhance standing, but conversely killing an npc would degrade standing ( in the same way as it does for ctc)
I think that as part of the overall package killing hive should have a higher standing increase with nations than at present to make botting on a par with trade. The sub factions should give standing for killing hive in sectors relatively close to their stations.

I'm in the unusual situation of having to agree with Ecka. Vile. Time for some Islay and a shower...maybe a scotch shower, in fact.

Ew.
Can't be real clock time, because it would make people not want to come back, as Inc noted.
Also can't be logged in time, because people will play even less than they currently do to "protect" their standing.
It makes sense RP wise, but it just... doesn't work. If anything it should become easier/more fun to gain standing, not harder/more boring.

Oh, I agree. Then again, I and plenty of others have a fondness for hunting in faction-protected spaces, so you might want to think good and hard about that.

I would be happy to take a huge faction hit to get some kills in nation space if it was easier/more fun to get it back. But not all updates to VO are exclusively to make the game better just for me ;)
While we're talking about updates just for me though, here are some possible ways to make gaining standing more fun for a combat-oriented player:
1) Give standing for bounty hunting
2) Give standing for PKs against KoS players
3) Give more standing for escort missions
4) Anything I can do that doesn't involve me flying a Behemoth
5) See number 4 again
If all current methods of gaining standing were significantly increased, and these things were implemented to a point that you're giving out faction standing like candy, I might be fine with a decrease over time. The problems I mentioned before go away if all one has to do to gain faction standing is play the game.
If things remain how they are and I have to specifically grind standing by taking precious time out of PVP or other fun activities I actually want to play the game for, I can't see how this could ever work.
