Instead of locking topics
Just ban the people flaming each other. It's the same 3 people every time anyway.
Yep: joyless, lecter and yoda. Resident forum trolls.
Maybe we just make a sticky thread saying "for those who are unable/unwilling to ignore insults directed at them in forums, please be aware the following individuals will try to press your buttons whenever possible" since permanent bans are not a thing here?

It's helpful when the rest of the community speaks up like this.
Thread muting was and is an option that I could have chosen. I could escalate from there, but permanent banning is up to Incarnate.
I try to manage the community in subtle (and sometimes less subtle) ways such that it is reasonably stable and functional. There are conflicting internal and external views on how this should be done, and everyone has an opinion. Some people want an almost Disney experience, some want the wild west, and then we have every shade in between.
In this particular case I locked the thread because it had degenerated before I could get to it, and let's be honest: we weren't curing cancer in that one.

Very few people want an almost Disney experience, very few want the wild west, and then we have every shade in between where the majority sits.
Agreed.

You seem to have misspelled jordie's name there, greenwall. But it's nice to know I'm in your thoughts.

If we're going to point fingers at people and put them on an official list of forum trolls, I propose that greenwall be added to it.
Don't let his fake concern for well being of the entire VO community fool you. He is only interested in his tight circle of homies and his idealized way of playing the game. If someone plays the game in ways that he isn't pleased with, that person quickly ends up on his shit list.
Want to know what he's doing with 75% of his time on the forums? See below:
Which is why your fucked up opinion serves no purpose other than for me to ridicule when I have time to kill. --Greenwall
Not exactly a productive way of supporting the VO community.
More evidence that greenwall enjoys trolling the forums a little too much

*sigh*
This is why we can't have nice things.
This has become tiresome for nearly everyone. I'm going to be more apt to lock threads, or worse, until the overall level of acrimony decreases. I will attempt to do this without disrupting otherwise productive threads. Please, everyone, try not to be any part of the problem.
Should anyone find themselves thread-muted, please take it up with Incarnate. I will have emailed him the details.
Thanks.

Notably, the whole point of thread-muting is it theoretically allows us to excise the specific troublemakers in a given situation (which can vary a bit, by topic and who happens to be grumpy about what), and let the rest of discussion continue unhindered. Total thread-locking is a sledgehammer I'd rather not have to employ all the time.
So, please support individual thread-muting, and if it happens to you, accept it and chill out.
