Allow certain missions to be taken from space
Instead of having to dock, such as the Hive Skirmish, Border Skirmishes and Advanced Combat Practise missions.
Obviously some missions have to be taken from stations, like those with specific requirements, like PCC missions and Trading Guild ones.

+1 Not sure how much work it would take, but now that the mission list is available in space, why not?

Would be accepted very much

This would also be a nice feature to have for when/if they implement persistent NPCs beyond the Marshalls. Perhaps a representative of Akan could be run across in some dark corner of space and he gives you a mission. Or special event NPCs that just happen to be hanging out at the hive constructs or around the racing tubes. Maybe there is a hive bot that is not behaving properly, but it could still be killed if you don't figure it out.
This would open a whole new way so think of missions.
It would be amazing.
Kinda like GTA. You're running around doing your thing and without having to go to some particular central location, like a station, you just happen to run into someone that has a mission to give you.
This would be so sick.

+1 I might be mistaken, but I believe GS has already stated that this is a long term goal.

Yeah, would be useful for combat missions.

reminds me of privateer the darkening mission system. Where you could receive incoming message proposing dynamic missions.

Yes, it is. We have to be careful and limit it specifically to certain missions, for awhile, as many PCC/editor created missions were designed with certain assumptions and triggers (like.. undocking). But it would work for some types.
We do also intend to have missions that can be received from roving NPCs and whomever.

What you intended could be years away incarnate, I do not mean to be horrible but you did promise the "explore addon" back in 2004, and slated that for "a couple of years".
Taking the basic combat missions in space, along with skirmish style missions (deneb, hive, etc) should be done now. Before it ends up "on the promised land" like so many other things. (Soon "tm")
Or maybe you could just ban me now for bringing this stuff up.

Or at the very least get rid of that horrible modal dialog when you click on "Dock."
Why is everything modal dialogs now?

Yoda: No. It shouldn't be done now. Instead, we should work on our existing 1.9 goals, which are crucial to our staying in business. Taking missions in space is not nearly so important as, say, whether the game is actually online (server work being a large, on-going timesink, recently), or whether anyone ever pays for F2P, or fixing the tutorials so we don't lose 95% of newbies in the first 5 minutes, or 50 other things.
Yes, I thought things would be different in 2004. Hell, I'm often optimistic, because if I viewed everything the way, say, Lecter views our chances of developing any given feature.. I would lose faith, stop developing the game, and go do something else. So, my optimism has its upsides, at least for.. someone?
Just because something personally bothers you, does not make it the most critically important thing for which all other tasks should be dropped. And if it takes 17 more years to implement "Missions.. In.. Spaaace!" (muppets reference) then that still won't make it more important than any of the issues I mentioned above.

Inc, I think you should try crowdfunding again.
I know it didn't work before, but since then you've gained more visibility on android/iOS as well as steam. You might be surprised!

Thanks, we may consider it again; but for the moment I'm focused on just trying to make F2P, ios, steam and other stuff happen. Hopefully the long-term gains from these will be a little more certain than the very-expensive time-vs-risk gamble that is crowdfunding.
But, this is all a bit off topic. For now, let's bring it back to the subject of missions-in-space. Other subjects are better addressed in other threads.

off-topic: micro-goals are the future. Let us fund stuff we care about.
on-topic: in-space missions would aleviate a lot of newb frustration.

I don't think the devs should go so far as to accommodate dumbasses, though, even if there are a lot of them.
The first 5 to 20 minutes of a game are quite possibly the most important, as far as new players go. So accommodating these dumb asses is very important. It's quite possible that quite a few none vocal people do not work out how to take the next mission, un-install the game never to return. If only they didn't have to dock!
But of course you have your own problems to work on Inc, like always these posts I make are just my opinion and I'm not a mind reader or a game developer myself. So what do I know?

@ Wally: The game has put up with you for years, why shouldn't it put up with new dumbasses?..
