books/movies
So I'm just thinking out loud. Very likely the devs have already thought about going down this road, but I'll drop a line anyway.
What would it take to attract commercial entertainment media interest to the VO backstory? It seems to me there is plenty of potential for developing interesting characters, suspenseful situations, and an absorbing plot line for something like a SF novel trilogy.
And as long as I'm just thinking out loud, what does it take to attract movie interest in a story? Again, I think the VO story has ample potential for characters, situations, sets, scenery, action scenes, etc., if someone with the right resources got interested in it.
I think our normal RP types: legit and illegit nationalists, pirates, smugglers, trader/miners, provide an ample canvas for painting a very good story line.
If any of this actually happened, the benefits to the player base and to GS as a commercial enterprise are obvious and potentially considerable.
Just thinking out loud. Any thoughts, or am I just being completely daffy here?

Basically, to statically make something like that happen, you need a tremendously popular franchise that will guarantee a fanbase who will want a film/book set in the same universe.
Case in point: Warcraft movie, which will happen at some point. Or their series of novels.
The flipside of this, is if you're doing a cross-media approach from the very beginning, with a major backer, and do it from launch. For instance: Defiance (Sci-Fi Channel TV Series and MMORPG, developed in parallel and informing one another).
We're a niche game. Our userbase is actually not trivial, in terms of the number of people familiar with our title and universe, but nowhere near large enough to drive some kind of film conversion on its own.
I have talked to publishers in the past about book tie-ins and the like (people who came to us, actually). But their minimum footprint was out of our reach.
This could come into the realm of possibility, post iPhone, Steam, etc, but it's hard to say. I'm not against it, or ruling it out, but obviously it isn't my core focus right now.

I love how developer's most used adjective seems to be 'trivial'. Nothing is ever easy or hard, big or small, light or heavy. It's either trivial or non-trivial.
It's not just incarnate, I've noticed other developers use this too on a non-trivial basis.

No worries - the backstory/any kind of plot isn't a core focus of the game right now, so it all kinda fits.

It's a trivial part of his focus right now...
There's a Story Thread in the RP Forums (courtesy of me)
Yes, I saw - it's a story only in the most trivial sense of the word. Again, completely appropriate for VO's current incarnation.
