Flight Mode Indicator in HUD
physics challenging? i find it to be challenging with arcade...
the game now tells you what mode you are in. only once, though, when you change the mode. i think it is done very much like that solution someone suggested (depressing the "change" key echoes a corresponding message).
It's nice to be told, but it doesn't address the issue. What is the actual direction of motion? Using Terminus as an example (i did this already, but it's the only example I have) the indicator simple pointed in the direction of travel. Even in "arcade" mode there was always a lag when changing direction. You could tell your mode if the indicator didn't follow with how you changed flight.
That would be good in Vendetta. That way one could actually use "physics" mode as a primary means of flight, rather than just for combat.
(Yeah, I suppose there will be someone who will say that they DO use it primarily, but I would think there are very few)

The message when you toggle modes was really easy to add. A permanent HUD indicator showing your mode, or one showing your flight vector would be a lot more work.
In the mean time... just watch the "space debris" floating around your ship. You can use that to judge your movement.
And FYI - everyone at Guild Software uses physics mode. :)

Hmmm... sounds a bit "challengey". Must try soon! :)

The game Terminus had that. When using physics style flight, an indicator would appear pointing to the direction of motion. That was is case you needed to be sure which direction you were actually flying in, rather than guessing you just looked at the indicator and could change directions accordingly. Worked quite nice.
YES... we need this feature. Both the direction of motion indicator (this would even be useful in arcade mode since the crosshairs don't always point where you are going when turboing) and the flight mode indicator, but especially the flight mode indicator!
I'd just like to bump the idea of having a flight mode indicator in the HUD. This would be really helpful to pilots who switch between arcade and physics a lot in the middle of a fight. Sometimes that button which is bound to toggle just doesn't catch and it can cause deadly confusion.

I'll second that. I switch modes often dozens of times in a fight, and forgeting which mode you are in even for a few moments can be lethal. The only method I have now is to watch the space debris, but that takes a few moments that I don't have a in a fight.
especially when fighting (changing directions fast), the flight mode can be monitored by the speed indicator: when the ship is still accelerating, it shows the difference between the actual speed and the desired oneas a light green bar, if you're decelerating it is shown as a red bar.
