I withdraw my support. Players should be physically smuggled in a ship with a turret or a dock. For purposes of giving other players a first account view, the suggestion should be to share your first person view with another player, even if that other player is in another sector.
Keep in mind that turrets are not synonymous with a passenger seat. Turrets provide a tactical advantage. Someone sitting beside you or in your lap only provides tactical stimulation.
I don't see an issue with allowing one extra person to ride along in all ships. Ships with turrets would still have the advantage of being able to haul additional livestock in addition to the lap-warmer, and all human cargo would still be physically smuggled in some kind of ship, permitting them to be slaughtered at the border if necessary. I guess riding along in good fighting ship instead of an Atlas would increase the odds of successfully evading those who might want to kill the ship and its occupants, but so what? Their odds are still worse than if they both had ships instead of one being useless -- with the exception of the passenger being a total newb, in which case who cares?

you need some way of seeing who is in a ship, and maybe some sort of influence on the faction system. How is that currently done with gunners? Can you dock with a gunner who is hated in a system? Does killing a ship affect standing in any way related to the gunner?
I would propose that a cargo scanner can also list all passenger+gunner names?

Sharing your view with one or more other players should be trivial, whereas actually transporting a player, other than via turret, should take cargo space, and add mass to the ship.
I don't have a problem with sharing the pilot's view, and I would like to see a feature where a pilot can make his/her view available for public consumption, in game, without us having to make youtube videos etc.
I do not have a problem with transporting players, as long as the transportation of players entails some handicap, and risk.
These are two, independent, issues. Sharing the pilot's view, and the transportation of players, should not be linked issues.

+1 to allow one passenger on most, if not all ship types. Maybe more based on cargo space (Behemoths and Centaurs both look like they're bot a pretty roomy cabin area behind the windshield.)
vanatteveldt: Gunners currently show up on the sector list without a ship (like people who are docked at the station). Killing the ship with a gunner counts as a PK for everyone on-board. Blow up a Trident with 4 gunners and the pilot? That's 5 PKs.
If you've got a gunner who's hated, monitored and guarded space will launch strike forces to kill you and your gunner, even if you're on good terms with them.
Docking at the station still works, if I recall correctly, but your gunner can't leave your ship or they get sent to their home station

I agree with Roda.
These are two different issues in my mind. My original perception on the suggestion hadn't taken into consideration having people ride along for any other reason but training and an easier view of what one is trying to explain while mentoring.
Having someone just come on a ride along for a reason other than training, should entail some kind of risk. This could include transporting newbs, transporting KOS individuals in that faction's monitored space, etc. So, yes, ride alongs should add weight and be limited in number. Maybe 2 or 3 max.
However, it is my opinion that one should not be punished in any ways for wanting to more efficiently train someone. Like Roda said, it seems somewhat trivial to be able to share someones screen.
I envision something similar to being in a group. The person who wants to share their screen invites the person with which they would like to share their screen. The invited person must be in a station. Upon accepting the invite, the inviter's screen is then shared with the invitee.
There could even be some filters for what is actually seen by the invitee, like hiding amount of credits and home station. This wouldn't be necessary, but may be desirable.

"Having someone just come on a ride along for a reason other than training, should entail some kind of risk."
It does entail risks. You've got two birds in one basket, and only one of them can shoot. As opposed to using a ship with a turret so the passenger could help, or them flying their own ships so that you can both dodge and shoot and have twice as much total armor in the fight. The other main risk is that all of the passenger's enemies will also consider you an enemy while you're carrying them, regardless of your own standings -- and you'll still be punished if you fight back to defend yourself.
Now stop and ask yourself what utility you provide by transporting people.
The answer is hardly any. The only times it's useful is if the passenger doesn't have access to any decent traveling ships yet, or if the passenger needs to go AFK for a while.
Smuggling people into places they shouldn't be is not a concern. Since the turrets and NPCs will disregard the taxi's standing if the passenger is hostile, it makes no difference whether the passenger is riding a friendly or flying their own ship -- and if both parties happen to be hostile, the odds are better if they fly separate ships (to divide the turrets' fire and also increase the amount of armor in play). The only way it is helpful to ride along is if the passenger doesn't have a decent border-running ship -- and that's only the case if they're a total newb, because the Warthog MkII is sufficient.

Well, it would afford someone a 100% successful means to rescue a newbie stranded in grey space using a Corvus Greyhound. That's arguably a good thing, though.
The standing issue is a bit messier. The whole ship's standing doesn't revert down to the lowest crew member's standing. If i load an Itani KOS gunner, then fly to Jallik the turrets will attack me, but I'm still Itani Admired. That means you can't just kill me without any penalty and if you do shoot, I'm allowed to defend myself.
I don't know if gunners firing causes the self-defense mechanism to activate, but that's not an issue for passengers who can't shoot.
