Create RP forum for name changes
Create a RP forum thread too keep track of name changes. They should be logged... If I want someone to call me kyle instead of kenny, it should be logged somewhere!

Minus waffle. I don't even. What?
minus many
Do you get to keep your standings with a name change? If so, then it should be recorded in the RP forum so the factions and corporations can look up who you are.
What's wrong with Kanye? Or yezzy
Oh, I get it now. Your suggestion would have made more sense if you'd said "forum thread" instead of just "forum". I thought you were making a trollish request for a new forum section for people to call each other names in or something.
+1 to recording character name changes made by the devs.
+2, however, to simply not permitting name changes in the first place except when they violate the rules or the player decides the name is too similar to another name.

Thanks Rin, I edited the suggestion to make it more clear.

I think the current system of opening a ticket is good. There are a lot of reasons to want to change a character name and it should be up to the devs to grant it.
That said, i'm all for charging $5.00 or some other nominal fee to do it.

I think it would get a bit more legally complicated if they charged for it?
As it is now the devs can use their discretion on a case-by-case basis. But if they introduce a $5-for-a-name-change option, then they would have to fulfill any paid request. To refuse certain requests would open them up to discrimination accusations or some shit.

I don't see any reason not to charge for it. It is an additional service being provided by GS. I can't imagine any reason apart from a requested name being inappropriate or taken that the devs should refuse if they are being compensated. I have had my main characters name changed multiple times from Mr. Fluffy to The Fluffy to Captain Fluffy. I appreciate that GS has done this for me and would have gladly paid a modest fee for the change each time.
Obviously my name changes were not such that they were meant to disguise my identity.
I don't have any objection to a public logging of character name changes. Players have 6 character slots if they want anonymity. It is not difficult to build new characters up to usable levels.
On the other hand, who does it benefit? I generally don't care who is playing what character. Every character might as well be a different person to me and the behavior those characters determine how I will respond to them. Most people are found out by their combat style, chatter and method of operation by folk who worry about faces behind masks.
And hopefully someday this game will have a sizable enough player base that all of this alt concern will look like silly nonsense. I've never played WoW or EVE, but I can hardly imagine those folk worrying about which character is Yoda.
