a cool Suggestion

May 27, 2015 The Axiom link
This post I will make may shock you, and any eve online haters or idealist haters please don't read, I am The Axiom a proper space name from a popular movie "Wall.E" I have only a mobile device no computer only internet or "Wi-fi" to satisfy my need for the web. I've been looking and looking for a mobile space mmo and I got Vendetta Online a great game name! It had a wormhole logo and reviews from phaserlight and other like players. So I got it not realising that this is pvp, close spaceship combat but it's in space so I stayed on for a bit to see if i could have access to "Lasers" or something like weapons from other games like eve, the closest I gotten are missiles and swarms, I love Vendetta Online and the player cap, it is high and I really appreciate that, since I am a minor I have restrictions to subs but I have ability to buy crystals and such.
I will get on with the suggestion:
A bigger modified version of The Atlas.
Make mining lasers deadly or specific type of lasers for pvp, long-range lasers. Not as powerful and takes long time to charge.
That's about what I got just a new ship/modification suggestion and "Laser" Idea
I like the community of this game and I am loving Vendetta Online because they made it to a mobile platform which I really appreciate!
The Idea of space and laser battles fascinates me, maybe some building stations and guilds owning them or something, I like the idea of adapting stations to their surroundings, real neat.
Well please post what you guys/gals think. :)

-1 to a bigger version of the Atlas. I don't see a point to that. The Behemoth fills that role already.

+1 to mining beams causing damage. I would say not very much damage, but some would definitely be acceptable to me.

-1 to long-range lasers. One of my favorite things about Vendetta is how the fighting involves projectiles that you can actually see coming, meaning that you can dodge them. It's basically space-dodgeball. I can accept mining beams doing a weak amount of damage so that a mining ship can at least try to defend itself even if its chances are very low. However, I dislike the idea of useful instant weapons.

That said, keeping it low powered with a long charge up does make it sound a lot more palatable than some of the other laser suggestions I've seen. It could fill the role of providing a way to at least do some damage to something that is very far away. However, in that case the devs would need to give it some way to overcome the angle precision issue.

+1 to Dr. Lecter's lightsaber suggestion.

+1 to the beam thing.
Tone down the damage though. Otherwise, everyone is gonna use Mining Beams as weapons

The laser beam seems interesting to me, as it would add another role for people to fill in combat.

For example, whenever you head out with some friends to do a hive skirmish, Deneb skirmish or go pirating, you can have a support sniper to bsck you up if things go awry. Have the dogfighters head in and do the usual, while the sniper picks off runners or slower missile boats for example. Obviously, make the damage build over time, so only experienced pilots with good aim can make this a viable weapon to use.

Mining beams sound hilarious, maybe not only damage their ship but actually mine it for ferric ore and xithrite alloy?

Mine the Xith out of the ship. It's a good way of making sure you're enemy explodes.

I always liked the idea of mining beams doing damage, maybe ripping the processed ore out of a ship. It would be at a slower rate as it is not raw ore and do pretty light damage.

The problem is they might be a bit on the useless side... they are severely limited in range and unless the person using them can stay close and match your moves, the target lock would be broken.

Modified Atlas- We already have Behemoths

Mining Beams- A long requested change. Due to the short range of the beams I feel they should do rapid and severe damage. This being the case, they should also start consuming energy to use if we ever get this.

-1 to bigger atlas, we have the moth

-1 to the mining beams since they would require a bit of reworking and there are plenty of higher priority stuff that would enhance game play. AND... we already have rails. They move fast like a beam. I'd rather see some kind of positron rail that splits the difference between the rail gun and a positron blaster (faster, but with a laser like streak of light but a smaller projectile with more quantity (325m/s, 1000 damage, qty 40 in lg port with 1000m range)

@Death Fluffy: You underestimate how easy it is to get close to people. Trust me, making them powerful is a bad idea.

Close range and high damage is not necessarily a problem - it just needs to be a light saber/thunderhead lance style weapon rather than a mining beam, which instantly hits and tracks a specific target. That's just waaaaaay too easy.

I was giving a quick response to something I've thought should be the way mining beams work, not so much a developed description of all of the necessary changes in getting there. I'm certainly not meaning anything close to instant or near instant kills. Rather I mean something that from the initial contact from the beam until that contact is broken does a continuous progression of damage in keeping with the dpe or other relevant stats that are used when discussing weapon balancing. They should be a at least one tier below standard weapons with regard to effectiveness, so perhaps my 'severe' comment was a bit overenthusiastic. Other fundamental changes such as a defined cone of fire rather than the current fully spherical range of mining beams.

I don't really expect to ever see mining beams become weapons because the changes that would be necessary would make mining even more painful than it already is. Yes, while it is magical that no energy is consumed while mining, having to manage energy consumption would kill the 'set it and forget it' aspect that makes mining tolerable. The same with the ability to mine from any direction so long as you are in range.

So yeah, I +1'd a fantasy.
