Remove http lib from Lua or any TCP connection.
It wont disable a database being shared, ok it may disable things like the IRC client (I really do not see this as a bad thing, especially when people use it to track chat, etc, to out alts? greenwall) but yes, it should not be so easily accesable.
Lets face it, for things like the IRC bot people could run a 3rd party app to read errors.log and stuff, and for things like the honeypot TGFT plugin they can fall back on making people install a 3rd party app. This hurts nobody and gives Guild Software a way to stomp out bad plugins and have no legal concerns.

This is how the legal system works btw:
Hi I'm Bret, and I feel I've been wronged in this game made by Guild Software(because greenwall outed my character while not in the game) (pays money to take them to court)
Hi, we are Guild Software, we have nothing, but have to pay money to defend ourselfs. (pays some money)
[6 months or more pass]
Hi, I'm Bret, I still feel wronged (pays more money)

lol yoda, you could have at least waited until Incarnate got back before threatening to sue them and shut down their business with a "i have more money than you" game because someone pissed you off. Any decent person would have waited.
But you are not a decent person so far as I have seen over the years, which is why I outed your offensively assholish alt. And I have no problem doing it again. That said, how do you even know I used IRC-sourced logs? Maybe I have my own personal logs from a secret account I always leave logged in? Or maybe I just have a damn good memory? Or maybe I guessed because all Yoda ever does is mill about Odia and grief people?

"If you don't do what I want, I'll threaten you with frivolous lawsuits about video game names!"
Frivolous yes, in odia no.
Let's see who backs down first.
[Edit]
I do not think I have ever claimed to be a decent person? But two wrongs do not make a left turn or something...
One thing I am is honest. Can you say the same?

I think guild software need to be put out of their misery btw
Oddly, this thread sums up the vast majority of my sexual fantasies.
-1.
There are, in fact, plenty of legitimate and helpful things that the network support enables. For example, I have a plugin I really need to finish up and publish properly sometime which can query the guild list on vendetta-online.com to look up which guild a person is in (even when they're not in your sector), or provide a list of members, etc. (I don't advertise this plugin because it's very crude and I basically never use it myself, but it is available at github.) This would be particularly useful for people who only have one monitor and like playing full-screen, and it could also be tied into a chat-widget plugin to add guild tags to your view of chat, for example. Or to automatically ignore/highlight people based on guild. Or whatever.
Similar things that could be done include plugins that look up race stats, duel ladder data, CTC information, etc. They could also provide an internal way to browse the forum or wiki.
And of course, they're very handy for disseminating information guild-wide without having to constantly visit a guild website or dick around with bots. In FAMY we use this feature to keep our list of paid-up clients on the server so that all members know who is and is not an acceptable target even if nobody else in the guild is online to tell them. This is a lot more convenient than the way we did it in CHRN, trying to keep Phleg online 24/7 so that we could query it for the paid list.

Blah blah blah, and is that anything you couldn't do without lua access ?
Short answer, no.
Short answer, no.
P.s. greeny, your reading comprehension sucks, did I say I was taking anyone to court?
[Edit] I could, and if I did I would be throwing good money away, but where did I say I would? You are such a child.

Sure you did Yoda. There's you little example at the beginning of this thread to illustrates how the legal system works (which is clearly meant to be a threat against guild software).
And then there is the following verbatim statement you made on 100 earlier today:
2015-05-26 18:04:36 Ch. 100 MellowYellow i will take guild software to court, and they will have to pay money to defnd, nice one bro1
2015-05-26 18:05:54 Ch.100 MellowYellow i have no legal case, but i have money. and they dont so yeah

My adivce is to walk this back a little and realize you (yoda) are the one who messed up and revealed your alt. I simply pointed it out. Had you not made your mistake in the first place I wouldn't have known. People's alts get revealed all the damn time -- it's dissapointing if you worked hard to conceal it, but it happens. Deal.
This has nothing to do with alts. This has more to do with threads like: http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/14/30033
And less to do with me. I hate all incarnations of the irc bot, but that's not my agenda.

The fact that you can so easily post in game chats without actually being in game strengthens my point if anything.
I have an errors.log file just like you do. This thread has everything to do with your alt being outed -- it's your entire motivation for posting. I outed your alt, you got pissed and logged off and made this post. Simple.
Nah, I was thinking about making this thread when the above was posted. You being a dick just reinforced that.
[Edit] I've had like 20+ alts outed by dicks like yourself, but why always on irc? You all miharu or cannot 1v1 me?
[Edit 2]
How many of you have plugins that you couldn't recreate without http lua?
[Edit 3]
How many bad reviews cos of the spyware words? All gone with my suggestion.

I don't care how many plugins don't absolutely require networking. I still gain convenience through the feature's presence.
I don't care if people get their alts outed due to using plugins; that is their own fault for not auditing their plugins if they care that much about their alts' privacy.
I don't care if people get their alts outed due to observation via IRC, because that kind of observation doesn't require IRC in the first place, nor (as you yourself pointed out) does an IRC relay itself require network support. Removing networking support would therefor have no significant impact on alt detection via passive observation; it would only impose a minor barrier to entry (a barrier which would likely be overcome quickly, reverting everything to the current state). Furthermore, if a person's alt is determined through passive observation, it is again their own fault for being bad at alting.
I don't care if idiots make bad reviews. Those are a simple fact of life. Note that those bad reviews are written in such a way that it's obvious their authors are idiots, and nobody who isn't also an idiot pays much consideration to the words of other idiots. Since I have no desire to play with idiots, I don't mind if they believe those bad reviews and pass this game over.
And finally, I don't care if you think some idiot could use plugins as an excuse to sue Guild Software. The reason for this is because they could always find some other excuse to sue Guild Software. Restricting plugins to not have network support doesn't do anything to stop frivolous lawsuits.
So in summary, removing network support would cause me inconvenience (however minor), while accomplishing nothing that I view as positive.

Not being familiar with the actual incident in question, from what I read in this thread your complaint is not against GS, but rather Greenwall.
This is my advice as a non-lawyer, for what it's worth:
1. Determine what offense Greenwall has committed against you which gives you standing to sue.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standing_%28law%29
2. File a John Doe lawsuit and get a court order compelling GS to identify Greenwall for the purpose of defending himself.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fictitious_defendants
3. Keep in mind that lawsuits are public record, and this will open up your identity as well.
4. Consider that time is money and your time pursuing this is likely not a good use of resources. Additionally, the defendant could be awarded attorney costs if your lawsuit is determined to be frivolous.

We've gone way off the rails here.
This had a chance at being a thriving, productive discussion after the first post. After the second post, it did not. If you are looking for legal advice, I suggest talking to a real-life lawyer.
Role Playing is a more appropriate place to discuss in-game events and organizations, including (alt)ernate characters.
