Graviton Wave Mine

Apr 09, 2015 biretak link
This large port addon carries four graviton wave mines that explode 5 seconds after dropping the mine. This mine crates a spherical graviton wave that increases in speed and destructive force until it is dispelled by a large object (asteroid, wormhole, station, etc), but the part of the wave that wasn't dispelled keeps going deep into the empty parts of the sector.

Within 2500m the wave does 0 to little damage, beyond 5000m a trident loses it's shields and beyond 7500m the trident would be vaporized (these numbers can be tweaked). The wave increases in speed and strength as it travels so you better turbo towards the wave if it is coming at you which could even reduce that damage the wave causes if you are nose into it.

The undertow of the wave pulls surviving damaged ships close to where the mine was deployed (which is still good for bringing a fleeing ship back to you even if it was too close to take damage).

This weapon would increase the danger of flying out into empty sectors and make parking/evading your ship through an asteroid field safer than an empty sector.

Edited to add.... It shouldn't be possible to jump until after the wave effect completes after it is deployed.

Savet's suggestion makes far more sense than this garbage. No offense.

haha... kb you have to realize this will never happen right?

I'll give you a +1 though just because it sounds like a crazy ass fun weapon.

So what you're asking for is a weapon you can load onto a Greyhound, turbo far out of radar range, then insta-kill everything in the sector that isn't hiding behind an asteroid?

lol You really want to kill that trident don't you?

+1 I'm going to go along with Greenwall. This would be hilarious fun, but will never happen, and the abuse! I would create an evil alt just for the shits and giggles!

I would suggest being within a certain range of the gravity of a wh/asteroids would dissipate the effect (maybe 3500m). The discussion is good, though.

@joylessjoker someone should write up savets suggestion if you think it has merit.

Edited to add... I think this could be created in a balanced way that could be both fun when within the gravity range of roids (pulls ship toward you to a lessor degree with less damage and prohibits jumping) and makes being crazy far out in space very dangerous and less desirable.

Do you have an explanation for how this weapon / wave would increase in destructive force as it expands in time and space?

Think about the other game harming implications this would have, such as in Deneb battles and Levi hunts- not to mention static queens.

@Fluffy good point you make about the queens and levis that are not in asteroid sectors :(... i never fought in deneb so I don't know how it would work there.

Honestly, a "Gravity Mine" in the literal sense would be a pretty interesting weapon. Sort of like a Concussion Mine with a negative concussion blast force that exerts a pull on nearby ships instead of pushing them away upon detonation.

I agree ARF. Especially if the effect could be greater on ships further away, but not on ships close to the mine. Maybe like a limited width gravity well gets created for a few minutes, all ships in sector get pulled in and cant leave, but ships can jump in. If someone could write that up or something similar, I'd +1 it.

"Especially if the effect could be greater on ships further away, but not on ships close to the mine."

I wasn't going to say anything earlier because I'm trying to be a little nicer in general... but you're a fucking idiot. Seriously. Do you have any notion whatsoever about how gravity works?

Hint: F = G * m1 * m2 / (r^2)

That factor of r^2 in the denominator? That means that every time you double the distance, the force gets four times weaker. If you're going to try to give your idiotic suggestions physics based justification, at least have the decency to not get things completely backwards.

As your punishment, I sentence you to binge-watch Bill Nye the Science Guy.
