Okay, you convinced me. I made a stupid little model and animated it flying around. Here you go:
http://www.roguelazer.com/files/ship1.blend <--- The model (for Blender)
http://www.roguelazer.com/files/ship1_flying.avi <--- The animation (of the model)
Hehehe. Everything was done in blender except the creation of the "engine" textures and the creation of the floor texture (but both were implimented in Blender).

woah, flying makes me dizzy..
You're lucky. I was planning on setting the camera for a first person view inside teh ship.
lol....someday I'll figure out how to import wings stuff into blender and animate...
How about dollying out and giving it a static viewpoint?
I did have a static viewpoint, but then I was limited in my range of movement. Personally, I'm still wokring on weapons. :P

I was bored in Visual Communication III class today so I spent like 15 minutes in Illustrator making rough sketches of what the new Warthog model may look like. At the bottom, the side view is repeated with different engine designs (bottom left is my fave). Unfortunately I didn't have time to make an isometric view of it. If the devs like parts of it, feel free to steal from it. If only we could import custom ship models into the game...

a bit boxy, don't you think?
i can see where you got your ideas from, though =)
meh... i have dozens of ship design sketches lying around, meant to be implemented in an EV, EVO and EVN plugin... it got postponed from sequel to sequel =)
seriously though, maybe we should send that stuff to waylon?

Yeah, boxy. But it's a rough sketch. The main focus was the design of the wings, tail fin, and engine. Not a lot of attention was given to the fuselage or textures. I just don't like the back part of the current Warthog. It appears too fat in the back, and the tiny dual nubs for tail fins would look better as a single, medium-sized fin. But for the most part I tried to make it look as close to the current one as possible. Although I have to say I like the boxiness of the cockpit, because it reminds me of a futuristic ME-109. It looks very fast and sturdy that way, IMO.
it kinda reminds me of the Viper from Battlestar Galactica. :P
Well, I think that the Warthog is pretty obviously loosely inspired by the Viper, but then again, the Viper is a pretty standard 'space fighter' design.
Waylon vigorously maintains that the colonial viper had nothing to do with the Warthog at all, and he didn't notice the similarities until after the fact. Such things happen.
Maybe it's just one of those things that you see but don't really think about or remember... and some 15-20 yrs later you pull it from your subconscious and regurgitate the design from that. I've always gotten the feeling of deja vu in that respect. It's weird how the human mind works.
Nevertheless, it's highly doubtful that Waylon lived through the 80s without seeing or hearing anything about Battlestar Galactica. There's nothing to be ashamed of! It was a cool show. Oh frack!

Heh, I made a few designs for Vendetta over the months. Where are they...

Limpet's up so far. Working on a detail of a medium gunship for tomorrow.
Edit: Added the Serco Scimitar outline. The inner claws are interchangeable with turreted energy cannons, which track targets in a 90 degree arc in front, using the pincers' motors.

Actually, I had never seen Battlestar Galactica until about three months ago. So there.
D'oh.
ku, if i touch up my sketches and send 'em to you, would you add them? i have no resources to get working on a hp right now, if i put em up, it'd be the boring ftp listing (i.e. no GUI).
